Am I Going To Be Able To Run A 10km? Let’s Find Out

As some of you might know I like doing obstacle course runs where I crawl through mud, climb through tight spaces and swim through bogs. I’ve never been particularly good at straight out running so I thought i’d set this as my next challenge.

A friend of mine wants to do Run Disney next year which is a 5km and half marathon (22km or 13 mile) run through the Disneyland Paris parks before opening. In preparation I thought I better book something smaller to see how I get on with running this much which is exactly what i’ve done.

In January I am planning on doing the Winer Run Series which is a 10km run through the streets of London, and yes i’m sure it will be cold. I’m definitely going to need to start my couch to 10km app now and hopefully the fact that Christmas is a month before (and i’m in Morocco for a week over NY) I shouldn’t be left lagging behind. I can hope!

The lopped course will see the runners go past the London Eye, St Paul’s, Big Ben and other landmarks so at least the surroundings will be good. There are even some ‘snow zones’ where you’ll be blasted with some form of fake snow (how festive).

    I did the race for life in 2014 and did so much better than I thought I would. I'm sure you will do fine!

      That's the thing if you just book it then you have to train or do some work. I find I work harder knowing I have something to train for x

    Good luck with this, you are certainly a lot braver than me! I can barely get my bum off the sofa to do yoga everyday let alone a 10k run! I'm sure you'll be great and the Disney run sounds so bloody amazing!!

    Oh wow, I ran the British 10K a few years ago. This goes through the streets of London but follows an entirely different course (or did when I completed it). Bets of luck. Don't worry about being cold or snow. You won't even notice. Alas, I won't be running it. Anankle injury means I no longer run these kinds of distances.

    Good luck with all this! I've been wanting to give jogging a go for exercise but way too scared (any tips?)
    The run through London sounds so cute with polar bear hugs and snow!

      I think you're best to start running on a treadmill first to build up your practice of running, and then maybe do the couch to 5/10km. I tend to run at night when it's dark so people don't see me haha x

    I'm glad you did the winter race post, I've been looking for winter runs to do but after my fall in the mud last week I'm really worried to go back out again, might have to stick to pavements.

    I love running- races make it worth while, the atmosphere is always awesome and encouraging so I am sure you will be fine 🙂 These races look super cool and I'm excited to be doing the one in Manchester!!
