We’ve all heard (and probably tried) one of the millions of beauty subscription boxes available, but these boxes don’t stop there. You can get book subscriptions with a new book a month, tea subscriptions, period boxes to cover your time of the month, monthly alcohol boxes (great idea) and loads more. I wanted something a little different so I did some research and stumbled across My Geek Box. Having received my first month I did a little research online for others thoughts on the box as I’m generally pretty nosy, but they seemed to be few and far between which is why I knew I had to write this post.
I watched loads of the un-boxing videos from previous months and made a decision to buy one for November. I was swayed because it came with a free welcome box and a little 10% voucher I found online. Previous months themes have included Villains, Gaming and TV and and they had already released the theme for November which was Film. To me Film is a little too open a genre, perhaps limiting it to Sci Fi Films, or Action Films might have been better. Because surely they’re going to run out of ideas soon?!
When the box arrived I was so excited to open it up. The boxes are pretty big and any post is generally exciting, but I have never been more disappointed with a package than I was with this, and it pains me to say so. I really don’t like being negative but there was little to make me smile about the box. (This might be why it’s taken me a little while to actually write this post).
Each month you receive a t-shirt and every month they’ve been awesome looking t-shirts but mine was a plain white one which just said ‘Jaws’. Really uninspiring stuff, and the rest of the items were pretty much a miss as well. There was a scratchy black scarf and I didn’t even understand the relevance of it, a Ted keyring which was okay, A little James Bond comic and a gadget CD.
I know with subscription boxes they can be hit or miss but there was nothing in this box that even made me think ‘”Yeah I’m glad I ordered this”.
I decided to cancel my subscription and not carry on (for the time being) but I still hadn’t had my allusive welcome box which I was promised and technically ordered. It’s been over a month since I got my November box and this still hasn’t turned up so maybe it’s just a marketing ploy to get you to part with your cash in the hope you forget about it. Either way I’m sad to say this wasn’t a box for me.
