Dear Body Here Are My 2016 Beauty Resolutions

Dear Body Here Are My 2016 Beauty Resolutions

In all honesty up until the last year I was a pretty shit girl I didn’t understand what half of the make-up terms were (some of them I still don’t), I didn’t condition my hair, I didn’t look after my skin etc. I started making changes in my routine last year but 2016 is when I want to get these so much into my routine that I do them without thinking. I turned 26 this month (eek) so I know I need to look after my skin now so it looks after me in the future. Some of the things I want to do are:

Get More Laser Hair Removal

Last year I was lucky enough to head along to Pulse Light Clinic for two sessions of their laser hair removal which I had on my underarms and it made such a difference to the speed of growth (so much so that it took about 8 weeks for it to grow back after my first treatment). I loved the feeling of not having to worry about shaving regularly and it left my underarms feeling better. This year I want to have more treatments so that I can go for longer without having to shave.

Moisturise every morning

I have quite dry skin so despite all the amazing primers and make-up that I have I find if I don’t moisturise sometimes my make-up can stick to the dry spots. I try my best to moisturise every morning when I get out of the shower but half of the time I’m running too late or just forget. I want to get into this routine straight away to make sure that my skin stays silky smooth and so that my make-up sits better on my face. I was bought the lovely Enzymion Lush Moisturiser for Christmas so hopefully that’s incentive enough.

Condition my hair at least once a week

I probably don’t look after my hair as much as I should, especially because I am serial hair dyer. Every few months (or when I can be bothered) my hair gets a boost of red before quickly fading (damn you red hair dye). I wash my hair everyday which I know is bad, but even when I’ve spent months moving from everyday to every other day it still gets greasy super quickly so I revert back. I use 2 in 1’s most days but there is nothing more amazing than doing a separate condition of your hair and have it feeling so smooth. I recently was indulgent and bought a replacement bottle of the Philip Kingsley Body Building Conditioner from M&S so I want to use this at least once a week to try and give back to my hair.

Use a face mask weekly

Another face one, but I think this is quite an important one. I wear quite a lot of make-up on a daily basis, not to impress others but because I like it and I like the way I look in it. Because of this my skin goes through a lot on a daily basis so I want to get into the routine of using a face mask every week to put back everything my skin probably loses over the week. I think what puts me off face masks is the mess of them but I am going to have a clear out of my beauty stuff and create a place where everything I need to do a face mask is ready (hair grips to keep my hair away/ muslin cloth to clean afterwards etc). I probably have too many masks sat in my drawers so I vow to get through them all this year.

Clean my make-up brushes more often

I’ve complained before about cleaning my make-up brushes and how it isn’t something that I do often enough but I really need to. Over Christmas I was lucky enough to get a few Real Techniques brush sets so I need to have a clear out of some older brushes to thin out my collection slightly. I know how much bacteria (and product) brushes can hold on them so I need to get into the habit of cleaning them on a much more regular basis than I currently do.

Remember to cleanse my skin every single night

A few months ago I bought the Angels on Bare Skin Cleanser from Lush and used it pretty much everyday for a few weeks and it really made a difference on my skin. But then things got in the way, I got busy etc and it fell by the wayside so 2016 is the time to change that. I know we should all cleanse, tone and moisturise every single night but I find it hard to even find time to take off my make-up never mind anything else, but I know I now need to make time. Cleansing doesn’t need to take long so this is certainly something I need to get back to doing on a daily basis.

Do you have any beauty resolutions or things you want to kick into your routine?

Awesome resolutions, one thing i do every day is use cleanser, toner, serum, hydrator and moisturise daily then at night (sometimes) is cleanse and moisturise

I could never remember (or more likely have time) to do all of that. But baby steps! x

I'm also pretty new to the whole looking-after-skin thing, I definitely understand the difficulty in making some things habit! It looks like you've got a great list of things to keep your skin (and hair) healthy. Good luck with your goals! 🙂 I don't really have any goals or resolutions when it comes to beauty and that. For me, when I realise I should probably start doing something I'll begin then and tend to do alright with it! Thankfully 😉

It can be so tough to get into habits everyday but I know if I don't i'll regret it x

These are some really great resolutions! I am awful with skincare, which is so bad coming from a beauty blogger, but I just can't get into a routine! I do love a good Lush facemask when I get the chance too though x

It's so bad isn't it? My mum keeps telling me to make sure I look after my skin because when i'm older i'll regret it if I don't and it gets me worried! x

These are great, I am religious about the moisturiser in the morning, especially when it is cold, but I often miss it at night when I'm tired. Trying to sort that this year.

    • January 12, 2016 / 9:13 am

I have a night time moisturizer on my bedside table to encourage me to use it x

The Man In The Mushroom Mask looks interesting. Is that an Oxford Street exclusive x

    • January 12, 2016 / 11:19 am

It was when I bought it last year, so possibly. It seems like the caramel inside a rolo, yum! x

I need to get into the habit of cleaning my brushes weekly. I am going to make sure i wear a SPF in my makeup every day.

    • January 12, 2016 / 2:36 pm

I'm quite lucky a lot of my foundations or primers have SPF in them, but that's a great resolution x

  7. January 12, 2016 / 2:53 pm

I try to look after my skin. I use g neglect when I was just a lot younger but not anymore.

    • January 12, 2016 / 4:32 pm

That's why I want to start now before I regret it x

  8. January 12, 2016 / 4:47 pm

Awesome resolution I have never been great with skin care at all. I need to make it more of an habit.

    • January 13, 2016 / 8:47 am

Once you get into the habit it's great but it's just getting to that point x

  9. January 13, 2016 / 10:39 am

Great post – I think that moisturising daily and cleaning makeup brushes are something I need to start doing too!!

With moisturising I have to have it out right by my sink so when I brush my teeth I see it and remember x

  10. January 13, 2016 / 10:43 am

Excellent resolutions! I totally agree about the moisturising in the morning, and cleaning the makeup brushes… But I do have to start cleansing and using face masks too…

    • January 13, 2016 / 11:50 am

I have to keep telling myself that if I don't do it now i'll regret it when I'm older x

I want to actually be bothered to put make up on every morning again. If that makes sense?

There used to be a time in my pre-baby days where I wouldn't even leave the house before putting make up on. I miss those days!

    Laura x x x

    • January 13, 2016 / 9:38 pm

I could not leave the house at any point without make-up but I guess priorities change when you have kids x

  12. January 14, 2016 / 10:36 am

Good for you! I totally agree that if you look after your skin now (hair, body, everything) it will pay off in the future. Wearing a sunscreen daily is key too, in Winter also. Sun damaging is the biggest cause of premature skin ageing. BTW love Philip Kingsley. Tx

    • January 14, 2016 / 10:52 am

When I do a clear out I will check my foundations etc and see which ones have sun screen in as I did not know that it was the biggest cause of premature skin aging! Thanks x

This year I've made a pact with myself to become better with make up and beauty. I do have a skin care routine but I never used to wash my make up brushes on a regular basis nor did I experiment with makeup. I use simple products but I've never gotten into using face masks! X

    • January 16, 2016 / 10:59 am

I need to start using my non regular makeup as I have so much just sitting around! x

  14. January 23, 2016 / 10:09 pm

Great resolutions, I love a face mask once a week & consider it essential now, my skin really responds to it, but cleaning make up brushes? Ugh, that's a thankless job :-/

    • January 23, 2016 / 10:22 pm

I hate cleaning them it's such a chore! I've just ordered a whole load of sheet masks to make it easier x

  15. February 7, 2016 / 4:02 pm

Good plan to do these things, now it is february are you still doing them? lol x
