In all honesty up until the last year I was a pretty shit girl I didn’t understand what half of the make-up terms were (some of them I still don’t), I didn’t condition my hair, I didn’t look after my skin etc. I started making changes in my routine last year but 2016 is when I want to get these so much into my routine that I do them without thinking. I turned 26 this month (eek) so I know I need to look after my skin now so it looks after me in the future. Some of the things I want to do are:
Get More Laser Hair Removal
Last year I was lucky enough to head along to Pulse Light Clinic for two sessions of their laser hair removal which I had on my underarms and it made such a difference to the speed of growth (so much so that it took about 8 weeks for it to grow back after my first treatment). I loved the feeling of not having to worry about shaving regularly and it left my underarms feeling better. This year I want to have more treatments so that I can go for longer without having to shave.
Moisturise every morning
I have quite dry skin so despite all the amazing primers and make-up that I have I find if I don’t moisturise sometimes my make-up can stick to the dry spots. I try my best to moisturise every morning when I get out of the shower but half of the time I’m running too late or just forget. I want to get into this routine straight away to make sure that my skin stays silky smooth and so that my make-up sits better on my face. I was bought the lovely Enzymion Lush Moisturiser for Christmas so hopefully that’s incentive enough.
Condition my hair at least once a week
I probably don’t look after my hair as much as I should, especially because I am serial hair dyer. Every few months (or when I can be bothered) my hair gets a boost of red before quickly fading (damn you red hair dye). I wash my hair everyday which I know is bad, but even when I’ve spent months moving from everyday to every other day it still gets greasy super quickly so I revert back. I use 2 in 1’s most days but there is nothing more amazing than doing a separate condition of your hair and have it feeling so smooth. I recently was indulgent and bought a replacement bottle of the Philip Kingsley Body Building Conditioner from M&S so I want to use this at least once a week to try and give back to my hair.
Use a face mask weekly
Another face one, but I think this is quite an important one. I wear quite a lot of make-up on a daily basis, not to impress others but because I like it and I like the way I look in it. Because of this my skin goes through a lot on a daily basis so I want to get into the routine of using a face mask every week to put back everything my skin probably loses over the week. I think what puts me off face masks is the mess of them but I am going to have a clear out of my beauty stuff and create a place where everything I need to do a face mask is ready (hair grips to keep my hair away/ muslin cloth to clean afterwards etc). I probably have too many masks sat in my drawers so I vow to get through them all this year.
Clean my make-up brushes more often
I’ve complained before about cleaning my make-up brushes and how it isn’t something that I do often enough but I really need to. Over Christmas I was lucky enough to get a few Real Techniques brush sets so I need to have a clear out of some older brushes to thin out my collection slightly. I know how much bacteria (and product) brushes can hold on them so I need to get into the habit of cleaning them on a much more regular basis than I currently do.
Remember to cleanse my skin every single night
A few months ago I bought the Angels on Bare Skin Cleanser from Lush and used it pretty much everyday for a few weeks and it really made a difference on my skin. But then things got in the way, I got busy etc and it fell by the wayside so 2016 is the time to change that. I know we should all cleanse, tone and moisturise every single night but I find it hard to even find time to take off my make-up never mind anything else, but I know I now need to make time. Cleansing doesn’t need to take long so this is certainly something I need to get back to doing on a daily basis.
