I made a pact with myself when I left retail and weekends were a thing again that I’d take advantage of travelling and go to as many places as I possibly can which is why I always start planning so far in advance. Time off work is always a killer for me as I get so little but much like 2015 I want to cram as much in as possible this year.
Technically I’ve already travelled so far this year as I didn’t come back from Morocco until 3rd January but I’m kind of not counting it. Although it was a massive step for me a) going on an organised tour which is something i’ve never done before but also b) going on my own! But that’s a whole post in itself. You can read a bit about it here. I have already started planning some of my 2016 trips as I want to do as much as I can so here are some places I’m planning on visiting.
Me and a friend have planned a trip to Romania across the Easter weekend which will include staying in an ice hotel, going to Translyvania to see Dracula’s castle and just exploring the area. We saw a trip online which looked perfect but I knew we could do it cheaper on our own and I managed to get prices so cheap we couldn’t not get it planned. Over the next month I need to get flights and some more of the accommodation booked but I am super excited.
One of my good friends is moving back to Germany this year so I am going to be heading over to visit her and what better way to combine it than Rock Am Ring’s festival in June. For me June is going to be super busy as my annual trip to Download is the weekend after Rock Am Ring and Glastonbury is two weeks later but f**k it I can’t wait! I’m excited to go to another festival in Europe as Groezrock in 2014 was one of the best experiences I’ve had.
Last year I said to myself that I wanted to go to Warped Tour one year and what better way to combine it than a trip to my favourite city. I love New York and despite having been three times already there is still plenty I want to do. I am planning on going for eight days hopefully so I have plenty of time to do exactly what I want to do including Warped Tour, The Met, The Museum of Modern Art, Walking the highline again, Seeing School of Rock on Broadway and generally exploring. I am so excited and this is another thing which should be booked up very soon.
Now I know this doesn’t really count as I am not leaving the country but to me Glastonbury is pretty much like a holiday because you’re there six days (and for me is costing more than quite a few trips I’ve been on). I haven’t been to Glastonbury since 2010 and I am so excited that a bunch of us managed to get tickets as it’s hands down been the best festival I’ve ever been to. We’ve hired out a camper van so we can experience it without having to worry about horrific weather so it’s going to be amazing.
I am determined this year to get myself up to Edinburgh this year. A lot of my friends went in 2015 and each time I got more and more jealous, so much so that I just need to do it. I am highly debating perhaps aiming to go for New Year (I know talk about advance planning) but I think it would be amazing to be there then. Plus it wouldn’t require proper time off work, but who knows.
