Top SEO Tips For Bloggers To Help Increase Your DA

Posted in Lifestyle

SEO aka Search Engine Optimization is one of those terms that a lot of people may look at and come out in a cold sweat. SEO is how your blog ranks in Google and if you want people to stumble across your review for the latest Urban Decay palette or find your top tips of what to do in New York when they’re browsing online you need to up your SEO game. A lot of people were a little disappointed last week after Moz’s latest update and making some simple tweaks on your blog can massively help where your blog ranks next time.

Now the below tips are not definitive of everything you can do to help your blog’s SEO but they’re some of the quick fixes and quick wins. My blog at the moment is hosted through Blogger but I do work on WordPress for other ventures and my music editorial role etc so for each of these tips I am going to include ways of doing it on both platforms to cover most of you.

I was going to do one larger post with everything but then I realised A) it would be a mammoth post and B) Some people will only want to know information about certain bits so below are the topics I’ve covered and there are links to pages specifically about those topics so you can choose what you need help with.

The first thing is to ensure you are setting meta descriptions for both your blog and each individual post. What these descriptions are are what shows on Google under the URL, it should give an overview of your post and what it includes to encourage someone to click it. Click here to find out more about what Meta Descriptions are and look like and how to quickly add them to your blog.

Once you have sorted meta descriptions for the pages it’s time to tackle alt text for your images. These are basically descriptions of your images so if someone does an image search on Google your site will come up leading to your website. Click here to find out how to add Image Alt Text.

Broken links are the bane of most bloggers lives but they are something which should be tackled as early as possible and re-checked every few weeks/ month depending on the size of your blog. If your site has a lot of broken links Google won’t see it in a good light so it’s something which you need to tackle (even if the thought reduces you to tears). Find out how to check yours and what to do next right here.

Choosing the right keywords can be the best way to rank well on Google so they’re certainly something you should be thinking about every single time you write a post. Find out why they’re so important and how to choose them by clicking here.

Next I would look at the page speed of your blog. We all know how annoying it can be when you go onto a website and the thing takes absolutely ages to load, sometimes we click out if it takes too long. You want to make sure this doesn’t happen to your blog so find out more about checking and helping your page speed here.

Have you seen a spam score on Moz when you checked your DA data? If so then there’s not too much to worry about but sometimes these can be altered quite simply. Find out more about your spam score right here.

I am going to leave my SEO tips there for the moment but if there are any specific topics you’d like me to cover or questions you may have feel free to leave me a comment below or contact me via e-mail/ social media (Details on my contact page). I hope these tips were useful for at least some of you and thanks for reading. Good luck with the next Moz update but remember Moz doesn’t trawl every site for every update so even if your DA goes down it doesn’t mean you are doing anything wrong.

  • Useful post! I need to go through and check all my broken links, but I have a feeling it's going to take quite a lot of time…. I guess it's kind of like house cleaning though, you've got to do it to get some order!

  • These are some great tips. There seems to be so much more to the running of a website other than just creating great content! It's so time consuming too!
