Loreal Paris Infallable Mist Vs Urban Decay Setting Spray

Setting Spray

When I made a trip to Sephora last summer I bought a whole host of products which worked out cheaper than back home and Urban Decay’s All Nighter MakeUp Setting Spray was one of those items. I have used it so much since buying it but when I saw that Loreal Paris had their own Infallible Fixing Mist so I thought I’d buy it to see how it matched up. Having used both products quite a lot I thought it was about time to do a comparison of the products.

What they claim to do

Urban Decay– According to their website it claims ‘To give make up serious staying power, mist on Urban Decay All Nighter Make Up Setting Spray. For smoother-looking skin that keeps makeup from settling into fine lines or disappearing through the night, turn to Urban Decay All Nighter Make Up Setting Spray.’

Loreal Paris- According to their website it claims to be ‘Our first ever makeup setting spray sets and extends your just-applied makeup look for up to 24 hours. A micro-fine mist for a weightless feel and invisible finish.’

But do either products do what they claim to do?

Urban Decay- This spray is so easy to use because as a liquid it is clear and when you spray it on it feels more like hydrating water than a makeup formula. It really is as simple as closing your eyes, holding out the spray a metre or so from your face and spritzing. They suggest doing an X and + motion across your face which I try and do but essentially I just use a few spritz and we’re done. I can literally apply this as soon as I have swiped my lipstick on (the last thing in my routine) and it’s good to go.

Loreal Paris- The main difference with this spray is the need to shake it quite heavily before use. If you don’t then be prepared for some white residue. This looks clear in the bottle but there’s certainly something else in there, if you look closing at the pictures you can see it at the bottom of the bottle. The application is the same in as far as holding it out and spraying it but sadly you can not use this straight after applying your makeup like the Urban Decay spray as it will make your makeup run a bit, especially eye make-up. You need to leave this I’d say 5-10 minutes to avoid ruining your hard work. It’s nice to be able to just spray quickly and go which I felt let this down a little.

Urban Decay and Loreal Paris

Longevity of makeup after use

I’m going to be perfectly honest I don’t think there’s much difference between the two products with how long it keeps my make-up on, both the Urban Decay and Loreal Paris sprays have done well in keeping my makeup on through long days and tough climates. This is especially so with my eye makeup which doesn’t crease or lose pigment in colour, and my foundation which doesn’t fade or clump up around my nose.

Value for money

Urban Decay- Despite it being quite a bit more expensive than it’s counterpart I feel this is still really good value for money. It retails at £22 for 118ml but I use this generally 2-3 times a week on those days when I know I’m going to be out all day/ the weekend and it’s still going strong after over six months of use with plenty left. I bought the smaller version which is £9 for 30ml to use for travelling as I know on days away I want my make-up to last for ages.

Loreal Paris- Being a drugstore brand the Loreal Paris version was always going to be better value for physical money at £7.99 for 100ml but I’d rather pay more and get the better product sadly. It’s a shame that I didn’t feel this worked more because it’s such a good price for the amount of product, but I guess the ‘you get what you pay for’ saying is true here.

Have you tried either of these products? What do you think?

  • How did you find the Urban Decay product worked in terms of make up settling? I notice it says in the description it stops product settling into fine lines which is something I’m noticing more and more – also does it prevent transfer of eyeshadow to upper lids?

    • Yeah as I said I found my eye-makeup didn’t crease or move, I have quite oily lids so always use a primer anyway but I didn’t find any eye-shadow stuck to my upper lids. I don’t tend to find that my make-up settles into fine lines but the setting spray did leave everything smooth so I can’t see why it wouldn’t help with this. x

OOh this was interesting as I love the UD spray though Makeup Revolution version is also quite amazing x

  • I haven’t used either of these products. I very rarely wear much make up but I do like the idea of the ‘make up setting’

  • Harriet @ Toby&Roo

I haven’t used these products but I will check them out; I used to love urban decay! H x

  • I use the L’Oreal one everyday straight after doing my makeup and I haven’t had any problems with the white residue you mentionned or my makeup running! Maybe i just had a lucky bottle!

    Lots of love Em, http://www.emilyrosevass.com

  • Ickle Pickle

I haven’t tried either of these – the Urban Decay one does sound amazing. It seems to last forever too! Kaz x

  • No I am yet too but souls love to try the Urban Decay x

I never had any issue with the Loreal Mist. Just love the way it makes my skin feel.

  • Fatima Ali

I am not much into makeup and beauty stuff. I just use the basics but knowing about these products was good. Added to my knowledge. 😀

Unfortunately I haven’t seen the L’Oréal Infalllible on sale yet. It’s a shame because I love the foundation of this line and would try this setting spray too!

I am a die hard fan of UD All Nighter and I’d say I’ve re-purchased 5 times now, including the travel size sometimes to keep in my handbag. It truly is a miracle worker for me. My MU stays put for 18 hours. There’ll be some shine creeping in at that hour but 90% of the day it looks as it had at application. I’ve traveled for 32 hours before with one face of MU (gross but it looked just fine!) Absolutely no transferring onto clothing either! I would love to find a cheaper option as it costs me $30 but I wouldn’t be impressed with residue AT ALL!

  • I might be partial here because I really don’t like L’Oreal but im like the biggest UD fan, but UD fixing spray is like top notch. I have a very dry sensitive skin and this spray gives me not only the longevity of my make up but also that nice dewy glow

  • I have never tried a fixing spray before, but I am using Urban Decay’s Naked palette and I am so happy with it, the makeup itself lasts perfectly for many hours and it still looks perfect. Not sure about L’Oreal, I like their glosses and lipsticks but I wasn’t satisfied with their eye shadows.

  • I don’t know much about make up and I’ve never heard about a filing spray before. I think the problem is that these products are always expensive and I would rather spend more money to have good quality product than just taking “cheap” and harmful products :)

I have been looking for one of these but have never used one before so didn’t really know what to expect from it.. Thanks for sharing this I will give the Urban Decay one a go

Nice review on those two products. Honestly as a man I do not much about make up and spray.

Overall, great product reviews. I do find the products especially the urban decay quite expensive.

Great reviews. I’ve tried the Make-up Revolution Spray which I think is £2 or £3 and it works amazingly!

I never knew that there are sprays that could make my make up last for hours. I’ll try this in the future and make sure I’ll get an Urban Decay because of this review. Thank you!
