March came and went in the flash of an eye and now it’s officially Spring. Part of me is really excited as I love Spring and it’s nice to leave work when it’s still light, but the other part of me is seriously wondering where this year is going. With another month gone, I thought I’d do a quick round up of beauty and skincare products that I’ve bought within the month and fallen in love with.
Estee Lauder Double Wear Foundation. Yes you’ve all heard of it, yes most of you have probably already tried it but I was super late to the game. Thanks to my Boots point collection I bought a bottle after my colour match and haven’t looked back. For me light foundations just don’t work well, they don’t cover enough and when you put too many layers on it looks cakey which is why I prefer medium- heavy bases. A lot of people say that this is a heavy foundation so I was a little worried about it being too much for day-to-day wear, or that it would feel heavy, but none of this is true. With one layer it is the perfect medium weight foundation, and with a bit more it can be built up but it never looks or feels like you’re wearing much. My only issue is the way it decants out of bottle as you have to tip it and on too many occasions I have poured just a little too much out. Any tips ladies?
I rarely use anything other than Micellar Water to remove my make-up because why would I?! I have tried Biodermia and never found the benefits outweighed the price compared to the Garnier alternative. I’ve tried most variations of the Garnier water (pink and green lids) but a few weeks ago saw the Garnier SkinActive Oil Infused Micellar Water in Boots and knew I had to give it a go. They are a pound more than the standard bottles at £5.99 but for a massive 400ml bottle this is still really good value (Plus I got mine on a 2 for £7 deal, Bargain!) Having quite dry skin the oil infused water is really nourishing to my skin and feels like it is putting stuff into my skin rather than just taking it off and fortunately the oil isn’t sticky or thick. Definitely, something you should check out if you usually use face oils or have pretty dry skin but just make sure you shake the bottom to mix in the oil before using.
Rimmel Scandaleyes waterproof nude eyeliner. I’d never really thought about wearing nude eyeliner because generally what is the point?! But a month or so ago I read somewhere about using it on your lower lash line to make you look more awake and I knew I needed to give it a try. And WOW it totally works. Swiping the nude liner on my bottom lash line gives me eyes that more awake/ brighter look and for such a simple thing it really transforms the way my eyes look. The liner itself that I have is quite creamy so it’s easy to apply but despite being in a tricky area lasts pretty well to keep me looking awake and with it!
Again another oil based find, I bought these oil infused cotton buds from Amazon on a bit of a whim. Cotton buds are great for removing specks of eyeshadow/ liner which have fallen in the wrong spot or erasing my eyeliner flicks to start a fresh but sometimes they leave a slight mark: this is where these oil infused cotton buds come in. Each bud is pre-packaged so you can open them as and when you want them and because of the product on them they remove excess make-up easily and without making a mess.
I had a bit of a splurge a month or so ago and bought two new Nars blushers which I totally
wanted needed. Out of all the blushers I have used the Nars ones are certainly my favourites. The cases are sturdy and stay well and truly shut, the colours are highly pigmented but can easily be layered so you don’t have to go too bright, they are long-lasting and their shades are incredible. Since using them quite regularly I have fallen head over heels for ‘Unlawful’ which is a bronzey colour but it has quite a bit of shimmer within it. This isn’t soo much that I look too made up for work but come on who doesn’t love some glitter?!
TheYves Saint Laurent Black Opium Nuit Blanche Perfume was on my wishlist back in February and I was lucky enough to snap up a small bottle on offer through Escentual when making an order for some more BB Blur. I am going to admit I partially bought this because of the pink and black glittery bottle (come on it’s beautiful!) but the perfume itself is such a nice smell. It’s meant to be a rockier version of the original Black Opium (whatever that means) but it literally means ‘sleepless night’, or an ‘all-nighter’ so it’s probably designed more for evening wear but I don’t bother listening to this. I’m quite rubbish when it comes to scents but it has quite a feminine, floral tone without being too much (I’m usually not a huge floral fan), but you can smell tiny bits of the orange blossom, vanilla and white musk throughout which is beautiful.
