Drink No Evil With Karma Cola

karma cola

I am the worst person for fizzy drinks, I drink them like there’s no tomorrow, although I did use to be worse. A few years ago every single thing I drank was fizzy whether it was 8 o clock in the morning, lunch time, or midnight it was generally Pepsi max (or an equivalent). I did an experiment for a month where I completely cut them out and went cold turkey and I genuinely felt like how I’d image a drug addict feels. I couldn’t keep my eyes open past about 9 o clock in the evening (considering I’m usually up post-midnight), I had massive headaches all the time and I just didn’t feel like me. Fast forward a few years and I feel more balanced. Fizzy drinks still play a large role in my drinking habits but they’re not all-encompassing. Although I can still go through a 2 litre bottle in an evening no problem.

Karma Cola are a brand I’d not really heard much of before I received their beautiful package of drinks*. I received a lemony lemonade, a gingerella and a Karma Cola, but these are different to your normal fizzy drinks as they’re both organic and fair trade. The brand won ‘The World’s Fairest Trader’ in 2014 awarded by Fairtrade International and a share of the profits are pumped back into the people of Boma to re-establish their lives in the aftermath of civil war and the ebola crisis.

Lemony Lemonade

One of the things which struck me most about the drinks when I received them, was the retro feel of them. The glass bottles were beautiful and the prints on them were really vibrant and fun.

I wasn’t expecting the Cola to taste much like cola because let’s face it things which are better for us or the environment generally don’t and it’s made from real cola nuts, but I was so surprised at the traditional cola taste. The gingerella had a real tang to it and is a great alternative to ginger ale. The one though which I was most excited to try was the lemonade because let’s face it who doesn’t love lemonade?! It’s created from fair trade organically grown lemons and my god the taste! It was really tangy and had the perfect amount of lemony taste without it being too sour.

You can buy these drinks in Waitrose and they’re definitely worth trying, especially as they’re far more ethical.

Do you prefer to buy ethically sourced drinks?

  • Harriet @ Toby&Roo

This would be perfect for me as I drink flat lemonade and have always preferred traditional lemonade instead of the uber fizzy, sugar ladened shop bought ones. Will have to look this up! H x

  • To be honest I have never thought about whether my drinks are ethically sourced or not. I am going to have a look for these – the packaging is so nice!

  • Jessica Dearnley

Those drinks sound wonderful. To be honest I don’t usually go out of my way to find ethically sourced drinks, but I might pay more attention now.

  • Kerry O’Byrne

These look so cool, never seen a bottle or design like that so it would 100% catch your attention on a shelf. Will definitely be giving them a try thanks for introducing me :)

  • BuildYourOwnEmpire

Knowing myself, I would buy this just for the bottle itself. I’m such a consumer when it comes to these things! I don’t really buy drinks, but I think buying ethically sourced drinks would be much more awesome than paying big corporations for their sugar in a bottle 😛

  • I’m really not a fan of cola, mostly because I know it’s super unhealthy and therefor I’m not a fan of its taste. Having a chance to try a new drink without the nasty ingredients is very good and I’d love to give it a try! :))

  • I’m caught up in the retro feel too. That is just so fun! I’d like to try the gingerella.

  • I’ve never heard of this brand before! I like how they designed the bottles, it’s really lovely and so “old skul”! I’d love to try it especially since it’s environmentally friendly!

  • I love the design, simple and fantastic. I want to taste it now so bad :)

  • Rosie Heather Roman

I once went to an event where they were serving ginger ale cocktails with Gingerella! They were gorgeous so glad I know where to get it from now :)

  • I almost died because of Coke. Like for real, it destroyed my stomach and made a hole in it. I had to cut it straight away and I remember how hard it was. I would like to try the Gingerella, I like ginger based drinks

  • mark and kate

I do like the idea of these fizzy drinks. Now where can I get my hands on those, I wonder.

  • Ana Ojha

I’ve never heard about Karma Cola brand. But it looks good. Can’t wait to try it!

  • adapperchick

I love the packaging and the art, it’s so quirky but cool. I’d be curious to try the gingerale
