Easy Ways To Change The Look Of A Room

Easy Ways To Change The Look Of A Room

Ever since having my own flat I seem obsessed with home improvements, home furnishings and homeware departments in shops, who knew H&M had so many amazing things?! But the problem is I am quite fickle (in all aspects of my life) so I’ll buy all new bedding and things for my room and be bored within a few months and want to change it. There are some things though which are easy to change and can make a huge difference in your home.

Bedding

My bedroom is the room I get bored with most often, I don’t know why as it isn’t the room I spend the most time in but I get because it’s my private personal space (especially when I have house guests). Simply by buying new bedding from duvet covers and pillows to sheets can make a huge difference to how my room looks. Usually I opt for dark colours like blacks and greys but sometimes a pop of colour is a nice change. I recently bought a mandala throw/ towel which I have draped across my bedding currently to add a massive flash of colour. I tend to get a lot of my bedding from H&M or Primark as they’re all a decent quality for the prices.

Lighting

Simply adding some lamps or changing the shade on your existing main light can make a huge difference to the way a room looks. Lampcommerce have a wide range of light fittings which can really change up how your room looks from free standing lights to their beautiful Artemide collection. Recently I’ve purchased some fairy lights and some smaller cage lights to place around my room to change the feeling and atmosphere when I am chilling out in my room.

Photos

My entire flat is like a mini art gallery with canvas superhero prints, postcards with quotes printed on them and photographs attached to walls all across my flat. I find adding frames and prints can change the look of a room instantly, especially as all the walls around my flat are white. Even changing what is in frames can make a huge difference as well so I tend to change out my images quite often, especially as you can buy loads of amazing prints on Etsy.

Cushions and furnishings

I really need to stop buying cushions for my bed and my sofa’s because soon enough there’s going to be no room for me. I love furnishings and any time a cushion with a cute slogan or a pretty picture of a cat appears it just falls into my basket and I can’t help it. Primark, H&M and The Range are all great places to grab cushions for under a tenner and they’re great things if you want a quick colour change or just to add some pattern.

Wallpaper

After the first year of living in my flat and getting through the initial period I was able to put wallpaper up so in both of the bedrooms I did a feature wall in both. This might not be the quickest change you can do but just painting or putting wallpaper on one wall is a reasonably easy way to completely change the way your room looks. My bedroom has a pink and silver patterned paper and my spare room/ office has travel themed paper and it’s made such a difference to the way the rooms look.

What quick changes do you make to your rooms?

I definitely know what you mean about changing the bedding changing the look of the room. I recently got ‘Catstronaut’ bedding (yes, little cats as astronauts, its as amazing as it sounds) and it makes the entire room seem brighter! I think i need to jump onto the fairy light trend everyone seems to love too!

I like to put up different wall art and pillows. I like to change the pillows seasonally. I WISH I could change furniture more often.

I totally agree, sometimes it’s just the accessories that can revive a room. I do stick with white bed sheets – which reminds me I need more lol. xo

I’m the same, I get bored easily! I try to change accessories as it is cheaper than changing the whole decor.

I get bored easily too, that’s why I have decided to decorate at the moment. I am doing everything very neutral so I can swap out everything from time to time and change the colour theme while keeping the walls fresh xx

Such a helpful post on how to easily change a few bits around your house or flat. We are a month away from being able to afford changing our furniture and making our quaint bungalow our own so I will definitely be referring back to this post! Especially when it comes to the change in seasons which is when I prefer to change up my decor.

We’re big fans of wallpaper and feature walls in our house, but lighting can also make a dramatic effect too. Soft furnishings like throws and cushions always make it homely xx nice suggestions

I love colour popping, whenever I want to re-do a room it’s my first thought! I tend to do what you said though, just stick with a cushion and curtain swap. It completely changes it up though!

I love the home department from H&M. I can spend hours looking through their catalogue or roam around their shops.
