Last year I bought the Marks and Spencer advent calendar which was a great calendar (worth looking into this year) and it was housed in a large box which had 24 individual boxes to open filled with goodies. As the boxes were not sealed/ glued I knew it would be something worth keeping so I hoarded the box away after Christmas and pulled it out of my cupboard the other week to do something with it. I remember last year when I told my mum about my beauty advent calendar her eyes lit up and she seemed enamoured by the idea of it but couldn’t justify the cost so I knew that my old box was going to go into making her her own beauty advent calendar.
Over the past month or so I cancelled a few of my beauty box’s (Birch Box and My Little Box) just because I am getting sampled out. I have small bottles of everything imaginable coming out of my ears and drawers full of things which I either don’t use often or don’t use at all, and about four bottles of Philip Kingsley’s Elasticator. As soon as my box’s started appearing after last Christmas instead of just throwing/ giving away products I didn’t need/ wouldn’t use/ had loads of I started putting aside anything I thought my mum might use and a few weeks ago I created her her own beauty advent calendar.
Splitting up items into skin care, hair care, body stuff and makeup I chose enough items to make an awesome advent calendar and set about making it look as awesome as I can. Fortunately, the boxes are quite spacious in last years’ Advent Calendar box which meant even larger shower gels/ hair sprays and things I didn’t think would fit in the boxes did. I spread out the different products so it wasn’t just four skincare products one after another so it almost alternates between the four sections (this is something more advent calendars’ need to do!)
All of the items are nestled in their little boxes ready to be opened and put a smile on my mum’s face, and after a pretty tough month I know she’s going to love it and she deserves to be treated. It’s also nice to know my samples and products are going to a good home. The only thing I have left to do is buy some tissue paper so I can wrap some of the smaller items up so they don’t move around too much.
Have you ever thought about making your own advent calendar?
