Recently I made a US order through Mymallbox and because the Jeffree Star velour liquid lipsticks seemed to always be out of stock in any normal-ish shades I decided to purchase two and have them shipped over with my order. I have no idea for any more liquid lipsticks, in fact my collection is growing so fast I now have about 30 all of which bar 2 have been purchased this year alone, oops #sorrynotsorry
After asking for recommendations and browsing swatches I settled on Androgyny which is a shade I do own quite a few of, it’s a plum mauve and quite dark and Scorpio which is lilac grey colour. There’s a lot more I could have got including Unicorn Blood and Redrum but I didn’t want to go overboard.
Visually the Jeffree Star velour liquid lipsticks are nice sturdy bottles of a decent size, they’re quite interesting in design and you can see a lot of the colour through the tubes which is always good. I don’t get why any brand would make an opaque/semi opaqua liquid lipstick tube, or is that just me?! In all honesty, I’m not that fussed about what the product looks like from the outside it’s all about the formula of course.
A lot of people rave about these liquid lipsticks and I have to admit they do live up to expectations as the colour applies evenly and easily, they dry quite quickly on the lips yet don’t feel too dry on. I have high expectations when it comes to the longevity of a liquid lipstick and if it starts coming off at around the 6-hour mark then I don’t consider it great. My favourite formula comes from Anastasia Beverley Hills (when oh when are they coming to the UK?!) and I compare everything to these and the Jeffree one’s didn’t surpass. Yeah the colour stayed looking good but considering they’re a similar feeling formula they did seem to fade quicker than other counterparts.
There’s nothing bad about the Jeffree Star velour liquid lipsticks and they’re great for those unusual colours which other brands just wouldn’t produce but I don’t think they’re anything crazy special. I know there’s a Cocktail Cosmetics store just outside of Birmingham so one day I might pop there and swatch some just so I don’t end up with anything too similar to what I already have.
