I’d heard the concept of indoor mini golf quite a few times and it sounded pretty awesome but I’d never got the chance to go until last weekend. It was two of my friends’ birthdays’ and this was their chosen activity before a night of drinking and dancing in London. Junkyard Golf itself is set in an old brewery in Shoreditch (of course) which is about a ten-minute walk from Liverpool Street Station (although longer if your friends are rubbish with directions!)
On arrival, you can check in and drop your stuff in a clock room if you don’t fancy hauling your bags and coats around the course with you. You can then buy drinks which are given to you in plastic cups, just in case, their choice of cocktails was pretty great. There are three different courses which each have nine holes so it is slightly shorter than your normal game of mini golf, but enough to have a laugh.
I’m a huge fan of the stylings of mini golf and how clever and crazy they can be but this was just another level. Every hole was weird and full of twisted junk for example one hole you had to hit your golf ball through a boat, another one had a beach hut with loads of barbie dolls attached, another one saw you try to aim through the legs of two full sized cows, now I’m talking strange stuff! The final three holes were in a UV techno area which was so cool but super warm.
We didn’t play super properly with the whole scoring/ par stuff as there were about 25 of us so it just wasn’t practical but you can score as you go round for those of you who are competitive. If I was in a smaller group I definitely would have done this. The whole concept of indoor mini golf might be a little gimmicky but it was such a fun thing to do and definitely a great options for birthday’s and parties.
