My First Christmas Eve Off In 10 Years’

My First Christmas Eve Off In 10 Years’

2016 will mark the very first Christmas eve I have ever had off while working. When I got my first job at 16 I was in retail where I worked for 8 Christmas’, how I coped I’ll never know. Working in retail, especially retail management, in a small team, in a jewelers meant that I worked every single Christmas eve from about 6am until about 8-9pm depending on how our sale prep was going. This wasn’t all the likelihood is I’d have had about one day off in the ten days’ prior, regularly working 12 hour days in the lead-up. Safe to say I was usually knackered on Christmas eve.

When I moved into digital marketing two and a half years’ ago now I did get weekend’s and bank holiday’s but for a lot of companies Christmas eve is a normal working day where you’re usually just let off a little early so in 2014 and 2015 I worked these days as it wasn’t worth sacrificing a whole days’ holiday for.

Fast forward to 2016 and Christmas eve happens to fall on a Saturday and I literally can not contain my excitement of being off for this day. My family have a tradition of having a family dinner on Xmas eve at my nan’s and I tend to give my presents then to spread out the fun so having this day off means we don’t have to start late when I finish work and we can start whenever we want to.

I know for a fact on Saturday that I am going to have a well-deserved lay in, probably make myself a lazy breakfast and do some baking before heading to my parents’ ready for a few days of family time, eating, and festivities.

Happy Christmas Eve Eve Eve, enjoy the festivities.

YAY congrats at getting Xmas eve off. I have so many friends who work in retail and in hospitality and they don’t get much time off over Christmas at all which is such a shame xxx

I worked in a hotel, then a shop so I’ve always had to work over Christmas including Christmas Day! I’m having 11 days off this time round, as I work in an office now. It’s grand to be off xo

Awwww bless how awesome is that, I can’t imagine having to work on Christmas Eve, I have been fortunate that almost every year since I started working I have always had it off.
