I am going to hold my hands up now and admit I pretty much never look at expiry dates for make up no matter how often I’m told never to keep a product for more than X number of months’/ years’. Yes if something is starting to look a bit off or a mascara starts drying up a bit i’ll toss it out but this doesn’t happen very often. I definitely have some foundations’ over two years’ old, lipsticks more than four years old and don’t get me started on blushers’ and eye-shadow palettes’, it’s not feasible to use them that quickly is it?!
Recently I’ve had a few clear out’s of my make up, more from a space point of view, but it is scary to think how long I’ve had particular products. Just My Look challenged me to pick some new beauty products to refresh my collection so I decided to pick out some items I had been meaning to try and some bits which could replace some older items in my ever growing collection. As a brand they specialize in bringing well-known and popular brands at affordable prices think LA Girl USA, Sleek, OPI and more. Here’s my initial impressions of the items I received:
Milani Amore Matte Lip Cream in Covet*
Now liquid lipsticks are not something I need so I wasn’t originally going to look but having a quick glance over the Milani Amore Matte Lip Creams I noticed a number of shades which were so different from what I already had in my collection I couldn’t not order one. This shade comes out with a slight metallic sheen but is ultimately a matte lipstick, although not so matte that it feels drying. For the price, it’s a great hydrating liquid lipstick and a great way to try out new colours etc, for example this coffee brown could I probably wouldn’t have gone out and dropped the standard £20 price mark on it. This particular one lasted around the 5-6 hour mark but I wouldn’t be surprised if the lighter/ more neutral colours lasted longer as you can notice the drop in colour much more with this one.
Milani Conceal and Perfect 2-in-1 Foundation and Concealer in Light Beige*
I knew a foundation needed to be on my list as I had a clear out of my drugstore foundations which I knew had been laying around for a while and it was a toss up between this and the LA Girl Coverage HD Long-wear Foundation. My decision was made when the later didn’t have my shade in stock so I got the Milani Conceal and Perfect 2-in-1 Foundation and Concealer. I’d heard a lot of good things about the foundation from other bloggers’ so I did have some expectations going into using this. I’ll start by saying I’m pretty sure I got a shade a tiny touch too dark with this which is a shame but I’m hoping my foundation lightener can sort this out. I think there’s a lot of similarities with this foundation to the Estee Lauder double wear in that it has a good coverage, is easy to built and sits really well on my skin. There’s no way I’d believe someone if they gave me this to try and said it was only a tenner. If you can get the shade right this is a great budget foundation which is long lasting and feels great.
LA Girl USA Pro Conceal HD Concealer in Orange*
Another brand I have been meaning to check out for ages is LA Girl USA. I tried to hunt out the products while I was in New York last summer but the calling of Sephora was just too much and kept me away from some more of the typical drugstores. I’ve heard a lot about their mascara’s but in honesty even after a clear out I still had too many of these so again I decided to go for a product I hadn’t used before and that was their Pro Conceal HD Concealer in shade orange. I would never have thought about buying an orange concealer myself but when I saw that orange is meant to cover up under eye circles I knew I had to try it as I do suffer from them quite badly and normal concealer only covers them to an extent. Now this does a great job at concealing my under eye bags but you really don’t need to use a lot of this. The first time I used it I put on way too much and ended up looking like a wotsit after I blended it in.
Sleek I Divine Garden Of Eden Eyeshadow Palette*
Sleek is a brand that I have heard so much about and have been meaning to try for absolute ages but I’ve just not got around to it until now. Browsing through their products I thought an eyeshadow palette would be best as I’d recently given away one of my mine to my mum as I wasn’t wearing the shades and I’d thrown two out which I knew were super duper old. As I have green eyes I find neutrals and browns work well for me but I remember when I was a teenager I used to wear greens’ quite a lot so I chose the Garden of Eden palette because it mixed the tried and tested neutrals I love with some greens to experiment with. While the colours are so pretty in the palette they aren’t so pigmented when you put them on the eyelid which was a shame but they were quite easy to build up and blend. This is a really nice travel/ starter palette to try out some new shades/ designs.
