While I do go to sunny locations it’s been quite a while since I’ve been on a proper summer holiday; my last in fact might have been Magaluf back in 2013. It’s always nice to explore the local area, check out what’s about but it’s always nice to relax because that’s really what a holiday is about. You don’t want to take well deserved time off work to come back feeling more knackered than before, even though this usually happens to me.
I’m always torn when it comes to choosing holidays as there are so many places I want to go but Croatia is somewhere I’ve always been interested in. The country is squished down the coastline with borders to Slovenia, Hungary, Serbia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Albania and Montenegro but the city of Dubrovnik is located right in the South so it benefits from bucket loads of sunshine and a beautiful coastline.
Dubrovnik is a walled city and is now a UNESCO world heritage site so you know there’s going to be loads to do. At just a 2 hour 40 minute flight from London, it’s far enough away to give you the summer climates you want without you being air bound for a crazy amount of time. The city is most commonly known for it’s iconic Old Town which is encircled with massive stone walls completed in the 16th century, it’s beautiful baroque St. Blais Church and it’s limestone coated streets which all sounds wonderful but for me, it’s a little more than that. Dubrovnik’s Old Town was a popular filming location for Game of Thrones including the scenes where Cersei did her walk shame. Considering the fact that I’m going to Belfast in May to do the Game of Thrones tour there I feel a trip to Dubrovnik to do the same here is only logical.

Not only this but the new Star Wars movie, Episode VIII, The Last Jedi was also filmed here and plenty of the leaked photos such as that of Stradun were filmed and taken within the city of Dubrovnik. Heck, stars like Jamie Foxx and Jamie Dornan are there currently filming for the new Robin Hood movie, so if it’s good enough for movie filming it’s good enough for a holiday.
Of course alongside the GOT tour I’d love to just relax, soak up the sunshine, take a dip in the pool and just enjoy life. I’ve never stayed in a Villa before but I think a location like Dubrovnik would be perfect for it, something like Sun Gardens, Dubrovnik would provide the best base for a week’s relaxation and exploring. The location is beachfront with views of the Adriatic Sea and Elaphite Islands with a lavish spa, loads of communal pools, a sports complex and a private beach area. There’s even a resort ‘Market Place’ with bars, restaurants, and shops if you don’t fancy heading out on an evening. A location like this is about 20 minutes driving distance from the Dubrovnik Old Town which is actually pretty perfect as I’ve read that it gets super busy during the summertime so it would be nice to go and spend a day there without feeling like cattle every time you walk out of your accomodation.
