I absolutely love trying out new makeup items and liquid lipsticks are one of my many obsessions, so when Urban Decay announced their vice collection of liquid lipsticks I knew it was something I needed to try. I’m going to be honest other than a Naked palette, Naked Concealer and one or two lipsticks I don’t own anything else from the brand, something I really want to change this year when I come to replacing used up items.
I popped into the Urban Decay store in Covent Garden a few weeks’ back to check out the shades. I had been drawn in by some of the glitter shades which are totally different from anything that I’ve had before.
Liquid lipsticks as a general rule can be great or can suck, I don’t have a huge amount of products which just sit in the middle. But where does the vice collection fit in? In all honesty, I’m not 100% sure. The shades are meant to be intensely pigmented, complete coverage in one coat, nondrying wear, comfortable and waterproof. Other than the coverage in one coat I’d be inclined to agree with all of the options.
I chose purgatory which is a medium-dark plum shade underneath with fuschia and plum sparkles throughout and is part of the metallized range – although it doesn’t show this on the website – I only know this because I swatched it in store. After one coat the coverage was not opaque and did not provide all over colour, but I tried a second coat and while it did come out almost completely opaque I had to be very careful to stop it from going streaky so be warned if you’re going for a sparkly shade. The more matte shades in the collection I am almost certain wouldn’t have this issue and are one-coat coverage.
I was expecting the glittery metallic finish to be uncomfortable but it wasn’t at all. The formula was light and it didn’t feel gritty like I thought it may have, although it did take a few minutes to dry down, a little longer than a lot of other brands I’ve tried. I have read mixed things about the wear time of these liquid lipsticks but this particular one lasted about six hours which included dinner and there wasn’t much dulling down/ wearing down of colour which I was happy about as it’s not one I’d wear as a general day-to-day lipstick anyway. The shade itself was noticeably less dry feeling than some other liquid lipsticks I own and they felt so freeing to wear.
