I have officially put my flat up for sale now which means the next step of my home buying story is starting to unfold. I am trying my best to save as much as I can while we’re still in the current flat but until we move in with my parents I don’t think we’ll be able to save properly.
Depending on what we buy will depend on what we’ll need to do but eventually we’re going to want to replace everything we can including the bathroom. I’ve been in my current flat 7 years now and had no control over the kitchen or bathroom so I am very excited about being able to have the control of this. Here are some of the elements that would create my perfect bathroom.
We’ve already decided that we want underfloor heating throughout the whole house as we don’t like the look of radiators and it would save space. Underfloor heating will make the biggest impact in the kitchen and bathroom where we’ll have tiled flooring as opposed to laminate or carpet like we’ll have in the other rooms.
I’m not one for bold, bright colours in a bathroom as I think it’s nice to be calming and tranquil especially when you enjoy a bath after a long day, but I like the idea of having some statement tiles on either the floor or the walls to bring something exciting to the room. I’ve seen some images where people just have statement tiles behind the shower and I like this idea, but this will depend on the shape of our bathroom.
In an ideal world I’d love to have the main bathroom upstairs as I like the idea of having it close to the bedroom for when I’m doing my evening skincare routine and after I’ve had a bath. But one thing I do want is a downstairs toilet with sink so that I don’t need to be constantly climbing the stairs if I want to go. I’d happily even shave off a tiny bit of space from another room in order to have a toilet as it doesn’t need to be very much.
Separate walk in shower
I’m used to having a separate shower to bath and I much prefer it. Currently I have a shower cubicle but in my future home I’d love to have an area which is more like a wet room style without proper doors so the water can just drain down and it will make the whole space open and less claustrophobic. Within the shower I’d like to have little cubby shelves built into the walls to use for products so I don’t have to use a hanging rack but this will depend on what’s behind the walls and around the bathroom.
In an ideal world I’d like to have quite a large bath so if me and Luke want to enjoy a bath together we can as I think this is something we’d enjoy doing after a long week at work. It’s a luxury that we don’t have at the moment as our bath is quite narrow and Luke can’t even lay down properly when he’s on his own. I’d love to have taps which are attached to the wall as I prefer them practically as they won’t dig into you depending on how you’re laying, but I would also like a shower style hose in the corner as it will make cleaning easier.
Under sink storage
I am all about the storage options in any room and I think the bathroom is an area where I’d have a lot of products that I’d want available and on hand, but the place where I want it to feel as tranquil and uncluttered as possible. There are so many sinks where you can have large cupboards and drawers underneath and I think this would be the best option for us as I can store products, spare items and everything else I can think of in there.
Large mirrored cabinet
I’m used to having huge mirrors all around my bathroom and it’s great for when I’m doing my skincare routine or need to touch up my makeup so I definitely need a large mirror for the wall in the bathroom. This would be both practical but also make it feel bigger and lighter. If I’m having a mirror I’m going to double up on storage and get a mirrored cabinet so I can store all my skincare items in there and not have to leave them out.
