A Guide To My Candle Obsession

Candles

Within the past two years I’d say that my candle collection is starting to border on obsessive and with such a large collection I keep saying to myself I won’t buy any more until I’ve used up some of what I have, but this rarely happens. I tend to get quite a few candles at Christmas – a running theme tends to be gingerbread scents which is one of my favourites. After looking in my cupboard and realizing quite how extensive my collection is I thought I’d do a rundown to showcase some of my scents (apologises about how long this is!) I am only including my main candles and not votives/ tealights/ melts which are predominantly Yankee, Village or Flamingo in the case of the melts.

Candles High End

High end candles

In all honesty, I don’t own a lot of high-end candles, not because I don’t like them but because I have so many I can rarely justify the expense. Once I have made a good dent on my collection I plan on treating myself to a Jo Malone candle which is an incentive to stop buying. I currently own one small Diptyque Candle in scent Noisetier which I am going to be honest, I have not started burning yet, but it currently sits in my bathroom and will be my relaxing bathtime candle. It smells quite different to anything I have and has quite a woody, earthy smell so I can’t wait to try it out. Although they’re not high-end as such I am going to include my two Anthropologie candles as they’re the other more expensive ones in my collection. My parents bought me the Vanilla Cinnamon one for Christmas which smells amazing, it’s very much like the scent you get from iced cakes which is totally my kind of candle. The other one I have I can’t find a name for but I bought as much because of how beautiful the jar is as the scent. It’s really light and has a strong citrus scent running through it so definitely more of a Spring/ Summer candle.

Candles Bath and Bodyworks

Bath & Bodyworks candles

Now if I had my way I’d have a lot more of these than I do but whenever I make an order I am conscious about how weighty the candles are making it more expensive to ship. I generally opt for the small ones where I currently own Peppermint Marshmellow and Cinnamon Caramel Swirl, but I also have the medium sized Twisted Peppermint candle which smells just like candy canes and I absolutely love as it’s fresh and light! The final one in my B&B collection is this large Champagne Toast candle which I got in a bundle on Black Friday. This is an alternative to other festive candles and is both bubbly and fruity with nectarine, peach and blackcurrant scents.

Candle Gingerbread

Gingerbread Candles

As you can see by the fact that this has a whole section to itself, gingerbread is my absolute favourite and something I love burning all year round. While gingerbread is a bit more of a Christmassy/ winter scent I burn them all year round because why not?! The ones I have in my collection includes; A Marks and Spencer own brand candle which is probably one of the strongest smelling of the bunch, The Beekwick Candle which was a gift from my brother and his girlfriend and has a ring buried inside which could be worth up to £1,000 – exciting, then two from Cornucopia in Gingerbread and Gingerbread House, the gingerbread one has a slightly heavier scent but they’re both very similar. Next up I have a Langley Home large gingerbread candle which is a much lighter scent, a Sebnini of England Ginger candle which has an earthier scent and then finally the Zoella Gingerbread Village candle from this Christmas’ range.

Candles Branded

Other Branded Candles

At Christmas, my boyfriend bought me a large Yankee Candle in scent Christmas Eve and it was pretty much exclusively burnt from Christmas until about a week into January when it was put into hibernation ready for next December. It’s a very Christmassy feeling candy and smells of candied fruits and sugared plums. I have two Kiss Air Candles in scents Mint Chocolate Chip which literally smells of ice-cream and is so sweet, and Lemon Drizzle which is a strong citrus undertone but isn’t too sweet. The final one I own is again quite different from me and come’s from Wax Lyrical in scent Mediterranean Orange. The scent isn’t that strong unlit but when it’s lit it just makes me feel like I am on holiday.

Candles Non Branded

Non-Branded candles

The final four candles which I had didn’t really fit anywhere else so I thought I’d slot them together. There’s a Pumpkin Rum candle which I bought from Home Sense during Halloween which is quite a strong pumpkin scent, a Festive Cookies mini candle from Heart and Home which smells just like freshly baked cookies, a Madagascan Vanilla candle from Primark and a Gin and Tonic candle which I picked up from the Edinburgh Gin Distillery last year and yes it smells just like a G&T.
