France is one of those staple holiday destinations for British holidaymakers. It’s pretty close and easy to get to via a number of different modes of transport. It’s one of those places that you can pack up a car and drive through the Eurotunnel to. It means the possibilities are endless when it comes to exploring the country. I’ve not yet explored anything outside of the capital; Paris. I’ve been to Paris about four or five times now, but never ventured outside. And for that I am a bit saddened.
Even though I’m trying to save money on travelling there are ways to save money on a trip to France. For example getting the ferry over can be quite cost affective. And doing this means you can generally take a lot of your own food and drink making your stay cheaper.
Camping holidays in France are also very popular as they’re a way to keep costs down. But also it can be a beautiful experience camping in a place where you’re more likely to get desirable weather. You can never trust the UK for camping! Here are some of the places in France I’d love to visit
The French Riviera is the Meditteranean coast of southeastern France and with over 2,900 hours of sunshine a year, it has more than Miami. Imagine that just for a second. Somewhere you can almost guarantee the sunshine at least during the key summer months. The Riveria itself covers over 550 miles of coast meaning there’s a lot to explore and see.
The famous beach resorts of Cannes and Saint-Tropez are located in this area. Alongside the microstate of Monaco, so you can technically visit two countries side-by-side in this area. The French Riveria is seen as a place of contrasts that sit side-by-side in harmony. You can spend time in rural France in the medieval villages and the ‘Grand Canyon Of Europe’. But then you can go to the chic coastal towns for shopping day trips.

Although technicallty part of France, Corsica is an island just off the main land which has it’s own language annd culture. Many people refer to it as ‘Ile de Beauté’ which literally means the island of beauty. If that isn’t reason enough to go I don’t know what is.
Two-thirds of the island is national parks so it would be great for those days exploring by foot and enjoying nature at it’s finest. Full of green and mountainous land it would be a great contrast from the hustle and bustle of the city life. Plus if you’re an art lover the Musée Fesch has the largest collection of Italian art outside of the Louvre.
Another great place with contrasting sides is Languedoc and Roussillon. There’s plenty of natural landscapes with gorges, mountaines, lakes and marshland. Including thousands of pink flamingos which travel to this haven like spot. It’s also an area with lots of vineyards so if wine is your thing then this is a great area. I’m not the biggest wine fan but I’d love to go to a vineyard and learn more about it. And where better to do this than France?!
In contrast you have the ancient walled city of Carcassone and chic modern seaside resorts to ensure you get your quota of shopping and nightlife. This is also an area of France that takes it’s food very seriously which I can get on board with. There’s an abundance of local garlic, olive oil and herbs which sounds like a great combination to me.

I’ve never been to any part of France. I’ve wanted to go there since I was a child, it’s near the top of my travel bucket list.
It’s definitely a staple for me as my parents live there! 😉 It is such a stunning country though and there is always something new to see evey time I go over. The Languedoc region is stunning… a visit to Carcassone Castle is an absolute must! Sim x
Oh that must be nice, you have a good excuse to head over there x
I have been to a few places in France, but not many. Last time I was there I went to Paris for 24 hours and it was way to short of a trip! I would love to go and experience more of what all for France has to offer.
Especially as Southern France looks so stunning x
I’ve literally been to paris one when I was a kid and I cant remember it. Your post is really making me want to explore! xxx
I’ve been watching Escape to the Chateau on Channel 4 and whilst I don’t have the money or the skills to transform an old French chateau. I do love the areas that they cover
Like you, I’ve only visited Paris. I’d love to explore the rest of France, especially as it is so close by.
Corsica is a good choice! The beaches there are incredible, and it’s pretty glamorous too. You also can’t go wrong with Provence, it’s so pretty especially in the sunshine!
ohh this is making me want to go even more x
I had no idea part of France was referred to as the Grand Canyon is Europe, I’d love to see that, I’m all about dramatic views. Mich x
I spent most of my holidays as a child in the South of France – it’s such a beautiful part of the country. I’d love to head back there as an adult x
I’ve been to Paris several times, Lille and Limoges. I’d really love to explore more of France.
We have been to France several times, however we usually go to Lyon or Paris. Would love to visit other places in France, like Corsica and French Riviera.
