I’ve spoken numerous times on my blog about the importance of experiencing things. So earlier this year I got a Premium Spa Day with Lunch or Afternoon Tea and Treatments for two* package from Buyagift. Buyagift have great deals on these packages throughout the year and at the moment it’s just £135. Meaning it’s only £67.50 each which is probably the price you’d pay for a single treatment on its own.

As we’ve had a bit of a crazy year with packing up the flat and moving back home I booked for me and Luke to go to the spa. The voucher allows you to choose which location you book into and we chose a local one to us in St Albans. This meant we didn’t need to drive far, and we didn’t need to add extra expense with staying somewhere overnight.

We got a physical voucher which is great if you’re looking to gift it to someone. But you can also get it e-mailed to you if you need it in a hurry.

We booked in to go to the Verulamium Spa, about a 15-minute drive away from us. It’s located within a leisure centre which doesn’t look much from the outside but is another world inside.

As this location offers longer treatments there was no lunch included in the package, but we knew this before arriving. It suited us as we went straight after lunch, but they do have a small cafe where you can buy something if you need it. After changing into our swim gear, complete with slippers and robe we headed into the spa area.

We decided to relax on the loungers, to begin with as we just wanted to relax. And it was so relaxing. The spa itself wasn’t huge so it wasn’t massively busy which was quite nice. I’ve been to some much larger spas and it can be the opposite of relaxing at times. I laid back with a book and Luke half slept, half read, it was beautiful.

There was a small spa pool with jacuzzi jets, a cold water bucket and 4 different sauna options. I’m not usually great in sauna’s as I’m not keen on the dry heat, but I managed it into the cooler two. I couldn’t even walk into the hottest sauna, and the steam room just wasn’t for me. But it gives something for everyone. After plenty of laying back, we headed back upstairs to the relaxation room ahead of our massages.

We both opted for a 55-minute Swedish massage which was just what we needed. I’d had a particularly hard week and to have almost an hour to pretty much switch off was incredible. The massage was the right pressure and my back especially felt great afterwards. Spa days are great as you get to do some major self-care and look after yourself. I don’t tend to use my phone when I have spa days and the time away from technology is quite refreshing.

Have you ever had a spa day?

I haven’t been on a spa day in what feels like forever. Sounds like you had a wonderful time

Sounds like a wonderfully relaxing time and lovely that it was a smaller spa so quieter. I love a spa and find relaxing on the loungers with a good book and away from technology does me the world of good. Like you I can’t cope with sauna’s and steam rooms so I tend to make use of the other facilities instead.

I think I definitely need to book in some time at Verulamium – it sounds lovely, and, of course, is only down the road from me too!

I’ve never been to a real spa and have always wanted to go to one. I could use a good massage right now.

Your spa day sounds amazing! A good massage is all that is needed. I am a bit prudish so haven’t had one. I have had an experience with Buyagift from my friend and it was great, it was dinner.

That 55 min Swedish massage is something I would really love right now. I’ll look into some vouchers from a spa near me tomorrow. Yours really was a good deal.

It’s everyone dream to have a ME TIME once in a lifetime. But it’s actually a self-care that we must do as a mom.

The SPA day sounds great, a perfect way of relaxing. Like you, I’m not too keen on dry heat, so I always avoid that room.
