Ways To Save Money On Your Mobile Phone Contract

As we look ahead to moving I’m trying to save as much money as we can on bills. This should help us save money beforehand while we’re saving for home renovations. But also on the day-to-day costs when we move. Mobile phone costs can be very expensive, over the years I’ve paid up to £80 a month on my phone.

If you’re looking for some ways to save money on your phone bill here are some ways to reduce your costs.

Save money on your mobile phone contract: Look at sim-only deals

Unless you desperately need a new mobile phone, think about a sim-only deal. You’ll likely find that when you look into sim only deals uk (or indeed elsewhere) the majority of contracts offer a great introductory price and a low price on a rolling contract after a short period, so you can choose to stick with it and still make savings or opt for a new deal with the same provider when the offer period ends. With the majority of regular phone deals, you’re paying far more for the phone than the actual contract itself.

If you do desperately need a new phone it’s worth pricing up buying it outright. Or on credit for just the phone. This can work out cheaper in the long run. I worked out buying a new iPhone from Apple on finance then sim-only contracts and it worked out about £15-20 cheaper than getting the phone through a contract.

How to save money on your mobile phone contract: Look at new customer deals

Sometimes it doesn’t pay to stay with the same company for years and years. There tend to be a lot of new customer deals so it can be better to leave who you’re with and get a new deal with someone else.

It can be hard to compare mobile phone deals but some sites can help you to compare things like data and minutes. So do your research online before you commit. It’s worth looking at the key things you want and comparing this against brands.

Saving money on your mobile contract: Look at how much data you actually use

Don’t be lured into deals that just give you loads of data as you may find you don’t use it. I made this mistake with my last contract and was given 100gb of data when I barely even use 20% of this in a month.

You can see on your current contract how much data you use and this will give you an idea of what you actually need. Remember when you’re at home (or in certain places) you can log onto the Wifi and not have to worry about using your data.

Keep mobile phone costs down: Avoid feeling like you need to upgrade

When it comes near the end of your term you may find your provider will hound you to get you to upgrade. They may promise great deals but think carefully about signing back in for another 24 months.

It’s easy to be lured in with the promise of a deal and not having to spend time looking for a new deal. But you may be paying over the odds for it so see what else is out there.

My phone contract is going to be up shortly so this is really helpful!

I went into a Sim only deal at the start of the year halving my bill costs and it’s so much easier I don’t think I’d go back unless my phone broke

My contract ends next month so this is very helpful, not sure whether to switch to a sim only deal as I still love my phone

You can always do a rolling 30 day sim only and then if you want to get a new phone in 6 months you can x

They always find ways to pressure you into upgrading… I just remember that I enjoy my phone now and how it is 🙂 x

Yeah I find there’s pressure as well but when mine runs out in a few months I’m 100% going sim only as there’s nothing wrong with my phone x

I complete agree, no need to feel the pressure to upgrade, as phone contracts are not cheap at all now xx

Absolutely agree with all of these. I ended up with an upgrade that I really didn’t need, so I’ll never fall for that one again. Sim only is a great option if you really don’t need a new handset!

I managed to get a Black Friday deal for my current phone contract, my phone broke just before! Sim-only deals are great too.

I only took out my contract twelve months ago, but I still have two years to run on mine.

A few years ago, I didn’t upgraded for a few months after my contract finished and my phone eventually stopped working anyway.

Perhaps before it is up, I shall certainly look at whatever deals are out there and research thoroughly to make an informed decision.

I think phones are a bit better now with not automatically breaking as soon as you were nearing your 2 years. But it’s definitely worth shopping around and not just auto upgrading x

I find having a good mobile phone palm super important. We just got a cheap contract for my daughter and it’s good to shop around for sure!
