Ever wake up in the morning feeling bad, but the moment you get outside the symptoms are gone? The culprit is in your home. Though the home is supposed to be a place of shelter and comfort, it is not free from toxins, bacteria, allergens, and other pollutants. Believe it or not, there are many things in your house that you’re exposed to on a regular basis that causes more harm than good. To keep your family healthy, it is essential that you learn what these things are and eliminate or reduce them from your home.

Heating and Cooling System

Your heating and cooling systems have filters that are used to get rid of the dust and debris in the air. This prevents it from blowing that right back into the atmosphere. As such, the filters eventually get clogged and stop working as efficiently. This causes the dust and debris to get into your home causing serious issues for asthma and allergy sufferers.

Be sure to change your heating and cooling filters several times a year to avoid air pollution and respiratory issues.

Pests

For those who live in wooded areas or near fields, spotting pests in the home is very common. They invade houses looking for food and a warm place to stay. The only problem with this is, many pests carry diseases that can be transferred to humans. Some pests bite which can cause a plethora of health issues. Lastly, pests like mice carry fleas. If you have a dog or cat, the fleas can transfer to them causing them to be very uncomfortable.

Don’t let pests stay in your home; pest control is the only way forward. The best way to avoid an infestation or getting sick is to look for pest control services like Moxie Pest Control. They can treat your home to eliminate or reduce the presence of pests in your home. Doing this at least once a year, and keeping a tidy home will ultimately resolve any pest issues you might have.

Hidden Leaks

Leaky pipes can cause a real issue in the home. Not only does it present water damage, but if left unfixed it can also result in mold growth. Black mold especially is very dangerous and can be extremely harmful to those with respiratory issues.

To keep mold out of the home check your plumbing at least 2 or 3 times a year for any leaks. An easy way to do this is to pour colored die down the pipes. This will make the leaks more visible to see. Another way you can tell you have a leak is if your water bill starts to increase significantly. Review your invoice to see if you’re paying more than usual. Then, contact a plumber to have them take care of the pipes.

Cleaning Products

Keeping a tidy home is essential to maintaining good health. However, many of the products you use aren’t good for your health. They contain toxins and pollutants that enter the atmosphere and can cause respiratory problems, liver issues, skin irritations, and more.

The good news is you can switch your cleaning products pretty affordably. There are lots of guides online on how to make your own cleaning products with a few key ingredients. If you don’t have the time, you can also purchase all-natural cleaning products to use in the home.

Clutter

Coming home to a mess is all too stressful to deal with. It’s terrible to look at, makes it challenging to locate things you need, and does nothing for your mood. If you find that your mood drops when you enter the home, perhaps it’s time to get rid of all the clutter.

Choose a weekend to complete a whole-house purge. Going from room to room, get rid of everything you don’t need anymore. Then, investing in storage containers and devices to organize your living space. Giving everything a designated area keeps the home clean and also makes it easier to find things you need.

Your home is supposed to be a place of comfort. It acts as a safe haven for all the threats in the outside world. If the very place you go to for shelter and peace isn’t kept up well, eventually it will start to take effect on your physical and mental wellbeing. You can easily turn things around and make your home a safer, healthier place to live by completing the steps listed above.
