* I was offered a complementary nights stay at the 25hours hotel in Vienna
in exchange for a blog post. But all thoughts and opinions are my own
Back in November me and Luke headed to the Austrian capital Vienna for two nights. We didn’t know much about the city but fancied going somewhere unknown and different. The one thing we’d heard was that Vienna was pretty expensive. I did write a whole post on ‘How expensive is Vienna?‘ and shock horror it wasn’t as bad as we’d thought. We were lucky enough to be offered a free night at the 25 hours hotel in Vienna. And then we paid for our second night. I’d heard great things about the hotel chain who also have hotels in Paris, Berlin, Cologne, Dubai and more.
We stayed at the 25 hours hotel Vienna at MuseumsQuartier which you guessed it is in the museum quarter. Having looked at the transport before leaving we realised how easy it would be to get there. The trains in Vienna are pretty great and run really seamlessly. We paid 21 euro each for a return train from the airport into the main city centre with the CAT (City Airport Train). These trains run twice an hour.
When we got into the main city we downloaded the transport app and bought our tickets via that. There are 2 stations very close to the hotel, Volkstheater U-Bahn station (U3) and Museumsquartier station (U2). So we hoped on one of those from the main station and arrived in less than 10 minutes. Travel wise it’s pretty cheap in Vienna at 2.80 euros for a single journey. And just 5.80 euros for a full day pass.
In terms of location, this hotel is pretty great as there’s a lot to do around the hotel. You’re right close to stop number 1 on the hop-on, hop-off Big Bus Tour, and you’re close to two stations which can take you pretty much anywhere else you need.
I have to admit I’d seen some of the images before going of the quirky rooms so I was very intrigued to see what our room would be like. After a very smooth check-in with the lovely reception staff, we made our way upstairs to our room.
Despite the room not being huge the way it had been laid out made it feel very spacious with lots of floor space. The toilet was the only thing located in a separate room with a door. The shower itself was in the main room but tucked at the back at an angle that someone laying in bed wouldn’t be able to see the other person shower. It was actually kind of nice as it meant when I was taking off my makeup I could still talk to Luke as he was in the same room.
The room did have plenty of quirk about it with a mural behind the bed which was very cool. And some circusy bits hanging around including a hula hoop (which I was pretty bad at) and some juggling balls (which I was even worse with). Bedside table lights hanging crocheted from the ceiling, and all of the bathroom supplies are eco-friendly and encourage guests to be conscious of water usage.
There are a lot of nods to the weird and wonderful around the 25 hours hotel in Vienna. A sign near the main entrance reads ‘We’re all mad here’ should be warning enough. But it’s tasteful and charming and not tacky at all. From the prison-style bars chained and padlocked in front of the mirrors in the lift to the sign that reads ‘Don’t feed the monkeys’ above the reception.
The hotel boasts the Mermaid’s Cave in the basement which is a gym and spa. Sadly we didn’t get time to go down and explore, but it sounds great. There are even regular yoga classes you can book onto. The top-floor boasts an all-day lounge with a bar in the evening. We headed up one evening to have a drink but it was rammed so we didn’t stay for a drink. To be fair it was about 9 pm on a Saturday night so we only have ourselves to blame. The views from this floor look out over much of Vienna so in the summertime it would be a great spot to spend an evening.
You can book in advance to eat at the Italian restaurant in-house which is well-rated with tourists and locals alike. And each morning you’ll be given so much choice for breakfast. This was a meal I looked forward to.
If you wanted to explore the city by bike the hotel has bikes you can rent for free. I think this is such a good idea as it saves guests money on trains etc but is also very good for the environment. There were lots of small things like this that the hotel did which made me smile.

What a seriously well placed hotel – really funky sounding too! Great if you are having a short break in the city, especially with its location! The day travel pass actually sounds really reasonable, taking into account the trains in Vienna sound much more reliable than those in the UK! 😉 Such a wonderful city to explore – glad you enjoyed your visit! I loved Vienna. I hope you had the chance to sample the cafe culture. This hotel looks quirky, The mural above the bed is stunning and having a good breakfast is also important. Was it expensive?
We actually didn’t get to sample cafe culture as we didn’t have enough time. It wasn’t really about £120 a night which between two people isn’t bad at all x
I have always wanted to visit Vienna. It looks such a beautiful place to visit.
