The countdown to get the keys for our first proper house is on. Although anyone who’s bought a house knows what solicitors are like, so it might be longer than we think. In the lead up to being in this position, I’ve talked a lot about planning out a personal budget and planning how we’re going to sort our joint money. Part of this process has been accessing all of our monthly expenses. We’ve worked out which ones we need to keep and which ones we can get rid of. This time I thought I’d talk about the monthly expenses we aren’t planning on cutting. These ones have been added into our monthly budgets and are set to stay.
We’ve had our Cineworld unlimited cards for about 15 months now as we love watching movies. And having these cards helped us not only get out and go to the cinema but helped us have proper ‘date nights’. Our Cineworld Unlimited cards are just over £18 each per month. But if we just paid for the cinema we’d pay not much less than that to see one movie a month.
Now when we move the Cineworld won’t be as close but there are quite a few options which are 15-25 mins away but we’re happy with this. It’s a monthly expense we’re excited to keep.
We have access to Netflix thanks to Luke’s parents so don’t need to put this in our monthly expenses plan. But we did cancel Now TV as we didn’t find we used it as much. But a few weeks ago we signed up to the annual pass for Disney Plus as it had some money off. This was a streaming service we knew we wanted from the get-go. We both love Star Wars, Marvel and Pixar and this has it all. I can’t wait to watch all those Disney movies I haven’t seen since I was a kid. And I’m keen to rewatch all of Marvel from start to finish.
Even though we’ve paid for an annual pass as soon as it comes to renew we’ll be adding this to our monthly expenses.
We both love music and Spotify is one of those non-essential things we’d be lost without. Yes, you can get a free version but adverts can be annoying. Having music on in the kitchen when I’m cooking, or on in the background when I’m tidying is so important.
We currently pay for a family subscription so that we can both have our own account, but Luke’s sister and my parents also have their own account as well. Although currently the Alexa in our kitchen which my parents use way more than me is connected to my account. So last years music roundup was way off!
I pay a few pounds a month for additional iCloud storage for my Mac as I store a lot of files. It’s mainly due to photos as when I shoot at home I shoot Raw which takes up a lot more space. And while I do delete old photos when I definitely don’t need them I don’t want to have to do this all the time.
I try to clear out files and my laptop every few months but before I had the extra storage I’d always get notifications I had no space left. And this got really annoying, and sometimes I’d delete things I didn’t want to just to free up storage. So paying about £1.79 a month for extra iCloud storage was one of those monthly expenses I didn’t want to give up.

Interesting selection. I don’t use Spotify but Amazon Prime for music and I am very happy with it. I would never give up my cooking subscriptions probably, as I love having spices delivered to my house every month, to try out new foods. Sounds like the Cineworld cards are very useful to you.
We have a couple of things we really wouldn’t want to cut – Amazon Prime being one of them, and Netflix is a newly added thing that we have grow quickly to love too.
An interesting choice of things to keep and I am with you for keeping anything entertainment wise that the whole family can enjoy. Netflix is certainly something I have not scrapped, even when I have been very strict with myself over the past few years… watching films and series is escapism! Sim x SimsLife
Yeah I think having something to watch is so important, especially at the moment with the way things are x
I have to admit we are looking at getting Disney+ I’m hoping to sign up for a year for £10 cheaper – actually I might go and do that once I’ve finished typing this comment out!
I always think it is good to allow yourself some treats.
If you do sign up look at the cashback sites as I think they have some good offers. I got the annual pass for £49.99 which I’m very excited about x
We’ve got Disney+ and won’t be cutting it either – plus we will be keeping Netflix and Amazon Prime. I am hoping to get Cineworld Unlimited cards for me and Steve soon too!
Saving money is so important especially if you are moving into your new home. but I totally understand why you don’t want to give up Spotify, Disney Plus and Cineworld Card as I love them as well.
Great selection. We have amazon prime and Netflix and use them so much!
It works out cheaper than buying a single DVD in a month so in my mind is 100% worth it for all the hours of entertainment you get x
I have been thinking about the cineworld unlimited cards. Like you said, they are perfect for date night.
Defiently agree with most of this, i used things like netflix and spitfy as a saving on what i could spend else where, and with disney plus now here, im very excited about it! especially at the moment
Saving money is definitely an important factor in our home . A family of five and saving the pennies can be difficult. Some great deals and offers here 🙂
This is interesting! I am always looking for ways to cut our monthly bills and yet in this current climate it feels they have done this for us. Only thing I wont be cutting is our Netflix!
Some things are just worth paying for! We cancelled NowTV too but are looking at getting Disney Plus. It seems a really good price.
We had a quick look this morning and there’s so much to watch on Disney Plus! x
