Anyone with a pet will want to, at some point, take them on holiday. We live in a world where you can get pet passports these days, so why wouldn’t you want to take them away rather than make them stay at home or in a kennel. You may think that you are stuck at a motor home or a camper van holiday, but the world has moved on. You are allowed to take them pretty much anywhere, even on flights. So, if you are thinking of taking your pet on holiday here are a few tips and advice for you:
If you are going to take rex on a road trip, then it may be a good idea to get out and about before the main event. You will learn his actions, and when you need to stop. It is actually a chance to figure out if it is a feasible thing to do. Staying in the car for long periods is not easy, and you may need to plan a lot of pit stops.
You need to think about things such as bugs, ticks, and parasites, even mosquitos and ensure you have the correct sprays, etc., for your pets. Some countries have very specific parasites, and you may need to visit a vet to get medication. Does your pet need to take a vaccination too? Especially against something like rabies. There may also be some kind of quarantine law that needs to be adhered to to ensure your pet is not held for days or weeks. The UK pet travel law is dictated here as an example. It is important that you do the research well ahead of your trip, as some of this can take a while to sort out.
If you are going abroad, you will need to research. Find out the rules and regulations for pets in the country you intend to visit. You may have to have your dog, cat, or ferret microchipped if you haven’t already. If you are travelling abroad, you will need a passport from the EU or the relevant listed country.
If you are flying with pets, it may be worth your while getting a pet only airline like Pet Airways. This way, your pet will fly in more comfort. The cabins are climate controlled with individual crates, and the animals are all checked every 15 minutes.
Do some research and ensure that the place you are staying in is definitely pet-friendly. Check out the facilities and recreation areas for dogs. There are so many places equipped for pets these days that you shouldn’t have much of a problem. For example, see All Four Paws for your complete guide to dog-friendly Cornwall. If you do the right research and find the perfect place, you will not have any issues, and all the family can have a holiday to remember. It could well be the best holiday you have.
