Before lockdown, I didn’t really pay attention to how often I was eating out. To me eating out twice a week was totally normal. But over the past few months, I’ve realised how excessive it was. And how much money we spent on eating out. Now I’m not saying this is going to change overnight especially when the novelty of eating out is an option again. I’ve been chatting to loads of people about where they’d first eat when restaurants are open. And it’s tough, we’ve all been reminiscing about the great food we used to eat. But to help us before places have unveiled restaurant recipes to help you cook your favourite dishes at home.
Fakeaways have been hot news as we’re all stuck at home with more time on our hands. Restaurants have been taking to Instagram to show us how to cook some of the dishes we’ve been craving. Here are some of the best restaurant recipes to try at home before they reopen.
I made my first (and only) trip to Dishoom just before lockdown and it was dreamy. I did only get there for breakfast so dinner there has been added to my bucket list. You can find out how to make the perfect naan bread or the Lamb Raan amongst other dishes. Dishoom also have a whole cookbook if Indian food is your thing. If you manage to perfect the naan bread breakfast give me a call!
I’m a huge fan of Leon as it makes me feel like I’m at least attempting to be healthy. And their halloumi wrap is something I dream of. While the brand has been doing amazing things like giving meals to the NHS and raising money, they’ve also been helping us with their restaurant recipes.
They’ve revealed where to buy their crinkle-cut fries and how to make their lentil masala which is a great meat-free alternative.
I don’t get to eat at Wagamama very often as Luke isn’t a huge fan but it’s one of my favourites. Their Chicken Pad Thai, Katsu Curry and Gyoza’s have my stomach rumbling just thinking about it. Wagamama has been posting videos showing how to make a whole host of dishes from sides to main courses. I want to try out the chicken gyozas, plus there’s also a good one about bao bun fillings. We bought the ‘School of Wok’ bao buns which came out really well! Head to their Instagram channel to see which of your favourite dishes you can try recreating.
Some Nando’s are open for delivery now, but that sadly our local one hasn’t reached our delivery address yet. The brands Instagram page has a load of cook along’s planned. Alongside the recipe posts on how to make your favourite Nando’s meal. The thing I struggle with most is getting the spicy rice so I need to try out their recipe and see if I can nail it.
Las Iguanas is probably the restaurant we’ll head to first time when everything opens. But in the meantime, they’ve put a load of recipes on their website including the Cheesy Peru Fondue which has caught my attention.
They’ve also added recipes to a whole load of cocktails. My favourite Mango Collins is in there so I know what I’m doing next weekend.
Somewhere I’m really missing is YO! Sushi. I loved the tapas of small dishes you could have as I can never decide on just one dish. The chicken katsu burgers were amazing, but I’m always going to be a fan of their gyozas. They posted a recipe to make them and if you tag your creation on Instagram with the hashtag #myYOgyoza you could win a £50 gift card.
There are loads of companies offering at-home baking kits which you can order and cook at home. This means you’ll get the right ingredients so there’s more chance you’ll nail the restaurant recipes.
Pizza Pilgrim are offering frying pan pizza kits so you can make your own pizza at home.
Patty and Bun are selling 4-piece burger DIY kits, and there’s even a vegan version.
If you’re looking for something sweeter you can get a Doughtime Time DIY kits to make your own doughnuts. I want to get one of the Cookie Dough Sando Kits.

I have been doing Nandos at home recently, especialy when the weather was hot. I need to look at recreating other restaurants as well
Las Iguanas is one of my favourites, i love the variety of there food, especially there Tapas, there full menu is ofocurse better but they do takeaway and the recipe list is fine, Nandos i think is openfor takeway where we are but I’m not sure, no doubt its busy. Great post.
I love the tapas at Las Iguanas as well, means you don’t have to select on choosing just one dish x
Have to say my enthusiasm for cooking has definitely waned during lockdown and I am missing my restaurant food. I think the videos I’d try first would be Wagamamas – and the Mango Collins cocktail!
I love nando’s and have not tried to recreate it, but have bought the ingredients so we can try it
I do miss heading out to restaurants, so wonderful to find a way to experience the same tastes at home
All of those are delicious looking dishes and a great place to visit once this is over. I, too have a few restaurants that I would want to visit again soon.
Oh this has made me so hungry haha. I am looking forward to eating out again. I will have to try some of these ideas out though, we are in a bit of a rut with what we are eating.
I’m so looking forward to eating out again too x
I love many of the above restaurants. However, my favorite is Nandos. Its food is so tasty!
We are huge foodies at home so loving your post and book marking all the recipes to try especially the nandos chicken, wagamamas recipe and the naan bread as well
We love Las Iguanas so definitely going to be looking at theirs! A wonderful idea to recreate restaurant favourites – I can’t wait to be able to eat in a restaurant again!
I do at home Nandos meals sometimes, but havent tried any of the others, its good to know that restaurants have been sharing recipes for people to create their own dishes
Yeah it’s nice that they’ve been sharing them and reminding people that you can have the experience at home while they’re not open x
