How the hell has it been three months since we got the keys to our house?! Three months is how long we initially said our home renovation would take. But a combination of COVID and having to self-isolate for two weeks with no work being done. And just more to do than expected means our project will be nearer 5 months in total. But we’re still making amazing progress. Although I think July is going to be one of the biggest months in terms of transformation for the house.
Visually it’s only been in the past week or so that we can actually see the change since month two. I’m hoping there should only be one or two more home renovation diaries before I can start doing room reveals *fingers crossed*.
But here’s what has changed/ happened during month three of our journey.
The biggest thing which happened during month 3 of the home renovation was the plastering. After a lot of stress getting plaster and spending more money than we’d hoped it’s all done. Thankfully we managed to get the whole place plastered in one go which means both upstairs and downstairs are ready to go when we can decorate. The plaster makes such a difference as everywhere looks like a clean slate. And we no longer have the horrible textured ceilings which I hated. Plus the new walls we’ve put in/ moved have been smoothed out so you’d never know they were any different.
Decorating was meant to have started but sadly our decorator had a family emergency. So we’re not 100% sure when this is going to start but hopefully, it won’t be too much longer. We have all of the paints and paper picked out so it’s just about getting started. Once the decorating has been done we can get all of the sockets and switches added to the walls. And then we can get lighting fixtures fitted as we’ve got all of these already.
After the plastering was finished all of our new skirting and architrave were attached and it looks so good. We even have a border around the loft hatch which looks so smart I’d have never even thought about it.
Our en-suite has had quite the transformation with tiling almost finished as I write this. Although it may have just been finished by the time this post goes live. We opted for a wood effect flooring and grey porcelain tiles on the walls and I couldn’t be happier with our choices. The great thing about the tiling almost being finished is that the en-suite can be fitted within the next few weeks which will be the first room completely finished (give or take).
We’ve chosen our carpet for the bedrooms and living room and we’re just waiting for a quote and timeframe on this. And I love the choice that we’ve made. This is the only other big thing which needs to be finished upstairs.
The remaining bit of the kitchen we still had with the sink etc has now been ripped out. So the kitchen is fully bare. This really hit home quite how large the space now is with the room completely open. I am so excited to get our kitchen chosen and installed, but that’s likely to be one of the last things we’ll be tackling around the start of August.
Luke worked really hard chipping up all of the flooring in the kitchen and my office as there was under-floor heating and tiles so it was very uneven. Once this was done a layer of leveling latex was added which has completely leveled out the flooring meaning the wooden flooring can start going down. At the point of this post going out most of the wooden flooring in our kitchen diner has been laid (although I’ve not seen it in person). So keep an eye on my Instagram to see how it’s looking!

We moved in to our house 6 years ago and we’re still not finished yet! Like you we are doing it all ourselves and there are only so many hours in a day!
You’re so right, I feel very thankful that we’ll have been able to do most things before we move in as it would be much harder if we were living there x
We are currently doing house renovations as well and we are nearly done! Best of luck with your house renovations!
We have been doing projects too! Our house was built in 1947. When was yours built? It looks old too!
Mine is quite new in comparison built in 1989/1990 x
I love renovating old rooms and places! It is so creative! I like to imagine how I can design and improve them using new ideas!
I can’t wait to see how you improve it! It’s going to look great!
House renovation can be great fun and a good way to get the house you really want, but it is a stressful process oftentimes.
I know what you mean by that, especially when you’re impatient like me and want everything done yesterday x
I am so excited to see the finished project! I can’t believe it has been three months – it sounds absolutely bonkers as we’ve all been stuck indoors all this time!
Yep, part of me feels like it’s been so much longer, but other parts of me feels like it’s gone so quick x
Your house is coming on nicely. We moved into ours 15 years ago and are still doing jobs we wanted to do straight away
At least when it is complete, you will have a peace of mind that everything has been done right, properly and you should be fine for years to come, even if it is taking much longer x
That’s so true and what I’m trying to tell myself x
Plastering is much more expensive than you would think isn’t it. I know we where massively shocked at the price getting 2 walls done in ours x
It was a bit more than I expected but not massively as it was done by someone my fiance knows through work so we probably got a good deal x
