Is The Hotel Chocolate Velvetiser Worth The Money?

Hotel chocolate velvetiser

So we’ve had our hotel chocolate velvetiser for just over a year now after getting it for Christmas 2019. At the time it seemed like quite an indulgence and something we’d only use on occasion. But it’s so much more than just a way to make indulgent hot chocolate.

The Hotel Chocolat hot chocolate maker makes in my opinion the best hot chocolate you can do at home. Before Christmas, I got the Terry’s Chocolate Orange hot chocolate from Costa and I remember drinking it being like ‘I can’t make one just as good from home’. For me, that’s testament enough that the velvetiser is a good investment as I do love making a hot chocolate.

What is the hotel chocolat velvetiser?

The hotel chocolat velvetiser is a hot chocolate machine designed to help you make barista-grade hot chocolate easily at home. All you have to do is add in your milk (dairy or plant-based milk), and then add in real grated chocolate flakes. Then it’s just a case of turning it on and in 2.5 minutes you’ll have amazing hot chocolate ready to drink.

How much is the velvetiser?

The hotel chocolat velvetiser itself works out at £99.95 when bought from the retailer. Although I have seen deals on QVC recently so it’s always worth checking there first. The set comes with two ceramic cups which are the perfect size for hot chocolate. And these retail at £20 on their own.

There are loads of different flavours of hot chocolate you can buy directly through the brand. You can either get them in individual sachets which work out at £13 for a pack of 10. Now £1.30 a hot chocolate may sound like a lot. But they’re just as good (if not better IMO) than coffee shop-bought ones where you’d pay around £3.20-£4 for one.

You can also buy 250g sachets for £8, or tubs for £9 which make up just over 7 cups per pack. So price-wise there’s not much difference between the two. My favourite flavours are milky 50%, orange, and mint. But there are loads to choose from for the hotel chocolate velvetiser.

You can save money on the servings by using less chocolate than recommended. But I think you lose the experience a bit this way as it’s meant to be luxurious. You can also purchase different brands of drinking chocolate if you prefer.

The best things about the hot chocolate velvetiser

Of course, the taste of the hot chocolate is one of the best things about the hotel chocolate velvetiser. But there are loads of other great things about the kitchen gadget.

It’s super easy to clean

To clean it all you have to do is add some water up to the fill line and some washing up liquid then turn it on and the machine cleans itself. Then it’s just a case of rinsing it out afterwards which is a game-changer.

It comes out at a drinkable temperature

One of the things I usually hate about hot drinks is how you have to leave them a little bit before drinking otherwise they’ll burn your mouth. Somehow the hotel chocolate velvetiser is set to make the drink at the perfect drinkable temperature. So you can start drinking it straight away!

Overall is the hotel chocolate velvetiser worth the money?

If like me you enjoy a luxurious hot chocolate, then the velvetiser is well worth the money. I see people paying loads of money for coffee machines that work out even more expensive and most people don’t question it. As hot chocolate is my hot beverage of choice I’m more than happy to spend the same and get excellent quality.

If you’re still not convinced you can buy hot chocolate from stores (when open and it’s safe to do so). So try one for yourself and I’m sure that will be enough to convince you!

Do you have a hotel chocolat velvetiser or have you been tempted by the velvetiser?

I think this is worth it for someone like me who drinks hot chocolates a lot but I have a coffee machine that actually has hot chocolate and tea.

I’ve got a Velvetiser. I love it – squirty cream and mini-mallows were made for it. The only negative thing is it doesn’t get quite hot enough for me. Also, be warned, if you think you can put normal grated chocolate in it – you can’t. I tried it and it all sank to the bottom in a lump!
