Ways To Make Your Mum Feel Special This Mothers Day

Willow tree ornament

*Items in this guide have been gifted to me, but all thoughts on how to make your mum feel special are my own

We’re now starting to approach holidays that we were in lockdown for last year. And sadly I don’t think 2021 is going to be very different. Whether we’re in lockdown or tiers there are still plenty of ways you can make your mum feel special and show her how much you care. If you’re not able to go out for dinner how about ordering her a takeaway or sending over a restaurant home kit?

I’ve loved willow tree ornaments ever since I worked in a jewellery store that sold them as a teenager. The simple joys* (£22) figure really resounds with me because of its name. Over the past year, I’m sure we can all agree that we’ve learned to appreciate the simple joys in life. The purple flowers really stand out on this figure and it’s great for your mum or anyone else you want to treat and remind of the simple joys in life.

Each figure comes with a tag with a sentiment and this one says ‘You’re simply a joy in my life’ and goes on to Susan Lordi quote which goes:

“I like to walk in the tangles of my garden and discover little jewels that pop up or volunteer through the weeds. Usually not planned or cultivated, these colourful surprises never fail to make me smile. Like a spur-of-the-moment visit from a good friend who makes me laugh, these spontaneous happenings, however simple, can bring so much joy.”

Miss Mindy oogie boogie

Make your mum feel special with something from her favourite movie

You may remember seeing the Miss Mindy figures in my Christmas gift guides, but I’m back with another one because they’re so damn cute! The figurine I have is the Oogie Boogie by Miss Mindy* (£25) from The Nightmare before Christmas. Not only does he come complete with a bow tie, a cape, and his trusted dice, but he features glow-in-the-dark paint. So this one is a really special one to add to the collection.

Oogie Boogie comes as part of Series 4 of the World of Miss Mindy’s Designer Vinyl. And there are loads of different characters to pick from regardless of what your mum’s favourite Disney movie is.

Cocktails and Dreams artwork

For anyone who loves home decor

Make your mum feel special with some beautiful artwork for the house. This print comes from family-run Ink & Drop who I have a few prints from now. All of the aftwork from Ink & Drop is unique and created in their studio by their own designers. Each print is printed, packed, and dispatched by hand.

I picked this cocktails and dreams palm neon print* (From £13) because it’s the closest we’re going to get to sipping a cocktail on the beach for a while. I have mine sat above our bar cart in the kitchen/ diner and it’s both striking with the neon design, but also understated.

The print is on 230gsm paper which is pretty thick, but one of the things I love is that you can pick up a frame to perfectly fit it in at the same time. So there’s no worrying about getting a frame afterward, you can gift this so it’s ready to go straight on the wall.

Spice pots

For the mum who loves to cook

My mum loves to cook, and when she does cook she loves a good curry so this set from Spice Pots is a great gift. The Indian spice kit* (£34.95) comes with five premium spice blends, a 150-page Indian cookbook, and a candle to help get rid of the curry smell afterward. And the whole thing is presented in a beautiful tin complete with Mother’s Day messaging.

I know my mum will love whipping up a curry, she’s a big foodie and tries to push how much spice she can add into things. If your mum is a curry/ spice fan then this would be a great gift for her. But failing that you can make your mum feel special by giving it to your dad so he can use it while making a special Mother’s Day meal for her.

Taurus necklace and earrings

Treat your mum to some special jewellery

Let me introduce you to a brand called Inscripture. They’re a family-run business established in 2016 when they had the vision to create timeliness, unique, sentimental, and style-savvy items to treasure. They’re actually the UK’s leading handwriting specialists and they offer a huge range of personalised products. You can get loads of different necklaces and bracelets with handwritten messages engraved on them.

I actually picked two non-personalized items to show you though. Firstly the Taurus constellation necklace* (£35) is absolutely beautiful. It’s a good-sized circular pendant in sterling silver with an intricate engraving of the Taurus constellation with a satin edge. Tiny little Cubic Zirconia detailing makes the constellation seem like it’s sparkling but it’s not too sparkly for everyday wear. They do a lot of constellation and star sign jewellery if the person you’re buying for likes that kind of thing.

Then to go with it I got a pair of silver sun stud earrings* (£17) which are a perfect everyday pair. They sit flat against the ear so they’re comfortable to wear all day long and sleep in. Plus they’re a good size to really be able to see in.

Foot massager

Make your mum feel special with a pampering gift

Nothing says ‘Happy Mother’s Day’ more than a good pamper session. I know my mum is missing getting her pedicures and chiropodist appointments so this dual foot massager* (£14.99) should tide her over until then. This dual foot massager stimulates pressure points in the feet and is super relaxing. You can just back with a face mask on and a good book (or trashy TV) and be transported into relaxation. All you need to do is roll your feet over the massager.

Over the past year, I’ve got my mum plenty of pampering gifts, but generally, they’ve been body or face items. So this is a little bit different, plus it’s small and compact so won’t take up loads of room in the house. And it only needs AA batteries so you can use it anywhere.

Hand cream

Practical but beautiful gifts

Make your mum feel special with this stunning collection of hand creams from Artistry Studio* (£22.95). A few years ago I wouldn’t have been all that excited to receive hand cream as a present, but now it’s a hot commodity and highly used. So giving hand cream is a very practical gift. But these hand creams are the Shanghai Edition Soft as Silk trio and they are truly stunning.

Each of the tubes has its own illustration on the tube and its own scent., There’s Vanilla, Lotus Blossom, and Pomelo so a lovely mixture. And because they’re travel-sized your mum can pop one in her handbag, one on her desk or workplace, and one on her bedside table. And then she’ll be covered in all places. The actual cream itself is really lightweight but rich and nourishing, leaving the hands feeling super soft afterward.

Aromatherapy candle

Make your mum feel special with a relax

It wouldn’t be a relaxing Mother’s Day treat without an aromatherapy candle* (£19.50) would it?! Now when you’re in the bath or doing a pampering routine you want a candle that’s relaxing. Something that makes you feel like you’re in a spa. And that’s just what this candle from Alphagreen does.

The rest aromatherapy candle has scents of rosemary, frankincense, and geranium. So it’s really relaxing and will rest your mind, plus it will also improve your sleep. This would be a great candle to burn as you’re laying in bed with a face mask on, or when you’re relaxing in the bath.

Skincare serums

For a mum who loves her skincare routine

I think skincare is a great present idea for Mother’s Day as it’s practical and you know it will be used. But you can perhaps buy some things your mum otherwise wouldn’t buy herself. I’ve helped my mum with your skincare routine over the past 9 months and love buying her goodies for her routine.

The Bioderma Pigmentbio C-Concentrate* (£23) is a really interesting Vitamin C for uneven skin tone and hyperpigmented skin. Unlike most other Vitamin C’s you use this at night either on its own or before your routine. And the pure Vitamin C powder is freshly mixed every time it’s used.

Now for something more every day, the Institut Esthederm intensive hyaluronic serum* (£52). I use hyaluronic serum morning and evening as it’s a hydrator that will help nourish your skin, redefine tissue, and smooth fine lines and wrinkles. This is suitable for all skin types and quickly absorbs into the skin.

Seams hand cream

The practical indulgence gift for your mum

Yes another hand cream to choose from, but at the moment you can’t get enough of them. SEAMS couturiers hand cream* (£14) is a non-greasy and instantly absorbent cream that was originally created for seamstresses to help mend and moisturiser their pinpricked hands.

There’s an instant hit of hydration as soon as you rub it on the hands. And it fully absorbs in leaving the hands feeling soft and supple. It is only lightly scented so there’s no strong scent lingering around. It’s also good for conditioning nails as well so it can be used all over.

Positive planner

Make your mum feel special and positive

Life has been tough over the past year and sometimes it can be tough to think positively. We all have down days, but that’s where the positive planner* (£20) comes in. The beautifully bright and happy planner isn’t just a journal, it’s a 12-week journey of self-care, daily positivity, and gratitude.

The brand created it to encourage people to make the act of mindfulness an everyday practice. And just looking through the beautiful original illustrations and artwork throughout it can’t help but make you smile. There are spaces for daily intentions and evening reflections, meal planners, mood trackers, positive affirmations, and mindfulness activities throughout. Loads of things to promote a bit of self-care and time for yourself to reflect.

The planner isn’t dated or marked with days so it’s up to the individual to work out how best to use it. You may want to use it every day, or you may want to dip in and out.

Maltesers smash tree from Prezzybox

Make your mum feel special with a sweet treat

If all else fails you can’t go wrong with something edible, especially when it’s chocolate. Extra points if it looks cool, and extra points if it’s personalised. This personalised Malteser white chocolate drizzle tree* (£24.99) ticks every single box! Apart from the glass vase, every part of this is edible so it’s a good chunk of chocolate. And great if your mum loves Maltesers. There are other varieties as well.

You can add any message (within the character limit) to go onto the glass vase. And this is truly a statement piece for any special mum.
