Ways We’re Hoping To Save Money On Our Wedding

*This is a collaborative post, but all thoughts on how to save money on our wedding are my own

Me and Luke have been engaged for 14 months now and up until the start of the year, we’d done nothing. The pandemic had pretty much halted any plans we had of viewing venues and really thinking about it. People were having their weddings cancelled or postponed every day so we put things on hold a little bit.

But at the start of the year, we started to have a think about what we really want. That huge lavish wedding that would cost quite a lot of money, or something more toned down. It’s such a hard decision to make because you want to have all the things you want and not regret decisions. But it’s also just the one day and spending tens of thousands of pounds pained me to even think about it. Here are some ways we’re hoping to save money on our wedding.

Save money on our wedding by choosing the food wisely

Food seems to be one of the biggest costs when it comes to a wedding. In most traditional weddings you have canapes for when you first arrive at the venue, a sitdown meal and then a buffet in the evening for all of the guests. And that’s without a wedding cake. While we’ve not booked anything or made final decisions, the idea of a traditional sit-down meal with a seating chart just didn’t appeal to us. And we didn’t like the idea of having to choose people to be there during the down, and then others there at night. So to save money on our wedding and have it more relaxed we’re going to choose the food wisely. And it’s likely we’ll go for something more relaxed in the evening after a later wedding.

DIY wedding invitations

Invitations can be pricey. You have the save the date cards and then the official invitations. But if you choose DIY wedding invitations it can save you a good amount of money by doing it yourself. Companies like Wow Vow offer you all the components to make amazing invites yourself. You can get everything you need to make them extra special as well from glitter envelopes and embellishments to wax seals.

I love the idea of having a more hands-on approach with things like this. And while it will take some of our own time doing the things, it makes them that bit more personal. Plus we hope to save money on our wedding by doing this.

Save money on our wedding by going DIY on the decorations

In the same way that we like the idea of doing DIY invites, I love the idea of making or creating some of our own decorations. From table centrepieces to bits for the wedding table. We have no idea about styles or exactly what we’d want to do. We don’t even know colours or styles, but I’m sure it will be much cheaper than buying them pre-made. Plus we can make them exactly as we want them without being confined to how they’re sold.

There are so many great ways to make savings. Weddings can be expensive but we have saved a lot by shopping around.

We created a website for our wedding which should have been last year. We didn’t want to send invites during lockdown and thank goodness we didnt in the end x

Yeah, you’re lucky you hadn’t. My friend sent invites for her wedding last year, then new invites for her wedding this year, and now a third set for her wedding next year. So it must have cost her so much x

I like the idea of creating your own wedding invitations. Creating your own invitaitons gives a nice and unique personal touch, as the ones your see in the shops can be bland and look similar.

You seem to have made a good choice, as choosing who you would like to attend your wedding is very tricky (especially as we don’t know who the effects of lifting the lockdown).
