*This is a collaborative post about how to find true comfort at home
People have been spending a lot more time in their homes recently. As such, it’s worth making sure the home is somewhere comfortable, somewhere that you and your family can properly kick back and relax, and in some cases, to make sure that you can work from home comfortably. Everyone puts different priorities on comfort. Just like everyone has different aesthetic tastes, what makes you comfortable might not do the same for someone else. It’s why when listening to advice around comfort you need to be careful. Don’t spend a fortune right off the bat following other advice because it might not achieve what you want. Instead, try some trial and error first. Plus, tastes differ within the household too meaning what you like might not be followed by your partner or your children. With that said, here are some tips for finding real comfort in your home.
If you’ve got a lot of stuff lying around the home, then it’s not going to be as comfortable as it could be. These could be clothes, kids’ toys, old boxes, bags, whatever the items are, if they’re taking up too much space then you’re going to be wasting space. Space could be used to properly ensure your happiness in the home. If you need some more storage, you might consider utilising the space for storage. You might go for a sliding door wardrobe so that you have more storage for clothes, or you could consider getting bespoke storage built to hold more items that are cluttering up the area. Sometimes it isn’t that you need to get rid of these items, just that you need the means to store them efficiently. Of course, you could still get rid of some of these items if you felt the need. Think of the short-term cash you’d raise from selling the items. In either case, cutting the clutter will surely add to a positive feeling and increase the home comfort.
Do you work from home? Then settle on a good place to work from. If you don’t, comfort is instantly compromised. You don’t want to be working from a place you usually relax, because it’ll make it pretty hard to switch off. Try not to work from the sofa in the living room, or from your bed. For the best result, you’d have a spare room where you’d be able to turn into a home office. However, if not you can use a spare bedroom and fit a desk into the corner. There are lots of ways you can carve out a good home working environment, but again, everyone is different. Being comfortable at home means being able to kick back and relax without having to think about work…so make sure your work habits don’t lead to your comfort being compromised.
Comfort comes from how you feel, and what you feel. Consider your flooring for example. Does your floor feel good when you step on it? Do you have warm carpet? Or wood flooring? Either way, if it feels good to walk across you’re going to feel the benefit of it. Think about your sofas. Are they tired and worn or do you feel great comfort from the material on them. This doesn’t mean you have to buy new furniture, but maybe you can cover it with a throw of some kind. Whatever you do, just pay some thought to the feel-good factor, because you’ll draw a lot of comfort from it if you get it right.
True comfort isn’t just from the ambiance of the home, it’s from what you put in the home. Being comfortable means being able to use things that give you comfort. Perhaps it’s a sip of your favourite drink on your favourite chair after a long day in work. Maybe it’s going up to your bathroom and using a facial sheet mask to relax and help you feel good about yourself. Whatever you do, ensuring your home is filled with things to make you feel comfortable is really important. They don’t have to be expensive or even cost much at all. It’s just about you and what makes you happy. Maybe you like ornaments, or small keepsakes dotted around that remind you of good times. Perhaps you like photos and pictures and want to adorn the walls accordingly. If there are things in your home that make you happy, you’ll immediately feel far more comfortable.
