*This is a guest post on how to improve your blogging

Online blogging is a passion for many, but you do need to make sure that you are putting the work in to ensure that your blog is the best that it can possibly be. Here are some of our top tips to help you improve your blogging and attract an even wider audience than you might already.

Improve your Blogging by Organising Your Topics

When you first started your blog, you most likely had a specific topic in mind. You might have been interested in beauty and lifestyle, home renovation, travel, or any number of other pursuits. However, as your blog grows, you might decide to add in some extras as your life also grows.

For example, your home renovation blog might have started out as a way to document a project between you and your partner. You might have now got married and started a family, and this means that you have more things to talk about. However, you might not want to drift too far away from the beginnings of the blog.

It might be a good idea to take a step back and properly organise the topics that you discuss. There are so many different topics that you can choose to engage with for your blog. Choosing to see what you are writing about, and taking the time to correctly organise things and make them easier for both you and your readers to navigate will always be worth it.

Learn How to Edit Your Images

You might have learned how to take better photographs as part of your blogging adventure so far. There are so many little tips that can help you compose better images overall. Just moving your angle and thinking more closely about lighting can make a massive difference in the quality of your images.

However, this is just half of the battle. You also need to make sure that you focus on improving your image editing too. This can be easier to do than you might think. There are plenty of guides and short courses that you can take to begin to gain a little experience in image editing. However, this is only the beginning.

With some image editing expertise on your side, you can begin to make interesting and engaging graphics for your blog that could completely transform its look. For example, you might want to look into extracting text from an image – a great way to extract a quote that you might want to use on a banner – as an example. You can find out more info here about this process and some of its uses. Editing your own images and graphics can really help to make your blog unique and different from your competitors.

Improve your Blogging by Focusing on Your Blog Structure

When you sit down to write out your blog, do you just let it flow or do you have a structure? While a flow can make for a very natural and friendly blog, it can also be a little too vague and rambling. You need to make sure that you have a vague structure that you can follow.

The simplest of these can make for a very easy format – say what you are going to say, say it, then wrap things up. Seeing it written in this way makes it seem a bit obvious, but you might be surprised at how often you deviate to it when creating new content.

At the same time, you should pay attention to your grammar and writing style. This is a blog, not a piece of academic writing, so you do not need to have too formal a style. However, there are some small things that you should be ensuring that you always include. Basic rules of punctuation and sentence structure will help to make any post easier to read. Making small improvements to your blogging style can massively improve the quality of your blog overall.

Promote Your Blog

If you are doing all this work to create your blog, you also need to make sure that you are promoting it on the right channels. Just creating the blogs and then uploading them means that there is a chance that your audience might just pass you by. A little promotion can go a long way.

What other platforms are you active on? If you have a Facebook, Instagram, or Twitter page that is linked to your blog in any way, you should post on these when you have something new that you want to promote. A quick post just to announce that you have a new blog post might be just what you need to drive traffic to you!

You might have other channels that you use as part of your brand. For example, many bloggers also create video content for YouTube. Writing a blog to back up a video is a great way to create interesting content, and your YouTube videos can also be embedded in your blog posts. A beauty influencer might give an in-depth analysis of a new product from their favourite brand, or a cooking blog might have a demonstration of their recipe. Using a multichannel approach to promote your blogging content means that you can pick up interest and a potential audience from many different places.

Take the Time to Identify Improvements

It is likely that you already have an excellent foundation for your blog, but you need to make sure that you are always seeking to improve it. There are so many ways to approach blogging, and each one could bring you some new angle to explore. Even little improvements like your choice of images or an active attempt to improve the quality of your writing can make a massive difference.

Take the time to properly go through your blog and find where you should make an improvement. It could be something very small that you need to tighten up, or it could be a full restructure. Both could have some brilliant results for your blog.
