*This is a collaborative post on preparing yourself once you have a positive pregnancy test

Do you have a positive pregnancy test? Congratulations! If you’re still trying it might be worth checking out a local fertility doctor such as a fertility doctor in Singapore.

After the euphoria of learning you’re expecting a new addition to your family has worn off, it’s time to start making and checking off a list of things to buy and do before your bundle of joy comes. While you should absolutely focus on making sure everything is perfect for your baby during the next nine months of pregnancy, there are a few things you should do for yourself to help prepare for your new baby.

Kit yourself out

Over the next nine months, your body is about to do something incredible, and you’ll start to notice your baby bump forming. This may mean you can no longer wear your favourite jeans and should purchase maternity gear, but it doesn’t mean you have to feel fat and unattractive in the process! Because you’ll be spending all of your extra cash on baby clothes and everything else they’ll need as they develop in the near future, why not treat yourself to some designer pregnancy wear? Feel and look amazing while performing the most amazing thing in the world: giving birth to a new life!

You should also treat yourself to must-haves for new mums such as a maternity pillow, itch relief cream for your growing tummy, and plenty of vitamins to keep you and your baby healthy.

Take the time to rest!

It may sound cliche, but you must give yourself time to rest! Not because you’ll soon have a newborn waking you up at all hours of the night (though, let’s be honest, that’s extremely likely), but because your body will struggle if you’re always stressed or weary. Make sure you get plenty of rest and consume delicious and nutritious foods to take care of both you and the baby in one fell swoop! You should also take the time to see friends for lunch dates, pamper yourself at the salon and most importantly, get some one-on-one time with your partner (and any other children you may have).

Make a checklist

If you’re worried about getting everything ready on time, start making a list of everything you’ll need and everything you’ll have to do over the next few months. If you’re anxious about forgetting something, you can always look up baby checklists online and use one that has already been created. You’ll start to relax and look forward to motherhood once you start crossing things off your list.

Upgrade your car

Finally, you may have been driving your small car around since you were a teenager, and it may have served you well, but now that you’re expecting a child, it’s time to consider its suitability. Will you be able to quickly install the car seat, will there be enough room for a buggy and nappy bag, and will there be enough space in the back for your child as they grow? If the answer is no, it’s time to trade in your vehicle for something more family-friendly. Visit your local dealership and select a car that will serve you well for many years as your child and family grow.
