The festive period can be full of excitement and magic. And celebrating this with your family and friends is the perfect way to spend the season. Christmas parties are a great way to bring everyone you love together, but especially if you like everything to be perfect, they can become a little stressful.

Luckily, by making a plan and sharing out tasks, you can make sure that you get to enjoy the party too. Here, we take a look at some of the tasks that you’ll need to take care of before the day, so that you and your guests can relax and enjoy.

Decide on your menu

Make sure to pick winter recipes that you are happy with and will have time to make. The earlier that you can decide this, the better it will be for you – it leaves you time to divide out dishes and get ingredients, rather than frantically racing around the shops at four pm when everyone is due to arrive at six. Take a look at your pantry cupboards before you go shopping to avoid buying yet another jar of mixed spice.

This is one of the things you can easily ask your guests to help you with. Plenty of people will offer to bring a dish, and although you might think you want to look like you can do it all yourself, accept help. Your enjoyment of the evening will increase and you’ll also have more time to spend with your friends. Try getting people to bring starters or desserts, which are generally pre-assembled. This way they’ll not get under your feet in the kitchen.

Hoover

You’d be amazed at how a clean and tidy space can make you feel calmer. Hoovering is a good way to see a noticeable difference in your home, especially if you tidy first in order to make way for a more efficient clean. If you’re not sure what you should be looking for in a vacuum to clean as easily as possible, make sure to check out the latest reviews.

Hoovering also means that your guests will feel happy taking their shoes off and getting comfortable, since they can see that the floors are clean. Get everyone settled into sofas and armchairs after dinner, and this cosy vibe will hopefully lead to natural conversation and a great night.

Clean your bathrooms

You might be safe in assuming that your guests aren’t going to poke around in your bedrooms, unless they’re putting their coats in there. But you can almost guarantee that they’re all going to use the bathroom.

Make sure that the toilets are bleached and the surfaces are cleaned. Not only does this look much nicer and like you’ve made an effort to clean, but it reduces the bacteria floating around in your bathroom too, so you and your guests can stay healthy.

To make it welcoming, be sure to put spare toilet rolls in an obvious place, so guests don’t panic or start poking around in your bathroom cabinets. Leave out a clean hand towel, plenty of soap. And if you’re feeling fancy and have it around, even some hand cream. An air freshener or scent diffuser can also leave the room smelling nice and clean for the next person.
