*This is a collaborative post on inexpensive ways to improve your bedroom
Your bedroom is the place where you can seek solace from the world around you. It’s the one part of your home that is truly yours and acts as a bubble from people and events.
You spend a significant part of each evening in your bedroom, so it makes sense that it should be a welcoming and relaxing environment for you and whoever shares your bedroom with you.
The thing is, if your bedroom doesn’t inspire an aura of relaxation and only has the opposite effect, you need to make some changes to your bedroom style and layout.
Here are a few handy hints and tips you can consider if you want to improve and update your bedroom to make it a more welcoming environment without spending lots of money:
The first thing you can do that literally won’t cost you a penny is to move your bed somewhere different in your bedroom. For example, if your bed is against a wall, consider moving it by your window instead.
It might seem like an odd thing to suggest, but moving your bed can be beneficial in a few ways. For example, it can mean you have more space to move around in your bedroom, or you could feel warmer if your bed is nearer a radiator.
You’ve probably got some artwork hanging up in your living room or elsewhere in your home. Why not add some to your bedroom too? What’s great about artwork is that it doesn’t need to cost you a year’s wages.
You can simply buy cheap art online or print some on your printer at home. Another idea might be to scour your local charity shops for some bargain artwork enveloped in attractive picture frames.
If you’re feeling creative, you could always create unique masterpieces by painting onto blank canvases and hanging them up in your bedroom.
Do you find that your current way of storing clothes in your bedroom isn’t particularly satisfying? Are you simply living out of suitcases or temporary “travel” wardrobes?
If the answer to either question is yes, it’s worth investing in one or two wardrobes that give you the storage space you need.
As you can appreciate, it’s possible to buy wardrobes at various budgets, so it need not cost you a small fortune to upgrade your clothes storage.
Do you have random items of furniture in your bedroom? Perhaps you’ve inherited some furniture from the previous occupant of your bedroom – especially if you’re living in a shared house and are using your landlord’s furniture?
You’ll likely have furniture that you don’t need or want in your bedroom, and you haven’t got around to removing those items. Now is the time to get rid of them in the best way that you see fit. If the furniture is still in good condition, consider donating it to a local charity.
Do you have a lot of random things in your bedroom that probably shouldn’t be there?
Perhaps you have articles of clothing that you seldom wear, but you keep them in a pile in the corner of your room? Things that look out of place in your bedroom should get kept in their proper places.
However, if you don’t have any such locations for those items, it makes sense to hide them out of sight in a wardrobe or chest of drawers, for instance.
A change you can make to your bedroom that doesn’t require any money and only needs some of your time and basic DIY skills is hanging your curtains higher.
What is the point in doing that, you might ask yourself? The answer is simple: curtains that get hung higher than their current position gives the illusion of a bedroom with a high ceiling.
Such an illusion makes your room appear bigger – a perfect idea if you aren’t blessed with having a cavernous bedroom.
You likely have some clothing that you don’t wear anymore. Perhaps such items are too small or big, or maybe you’ve decided they aren’t to your tastes.
In any event, they are taking up valuable space in your wardrobes, drawers, and other places where you store your clothes.
You can free up some storage space and help someone less fortunate than yourself by donating your unwanted clothes to charity. Doing so is both a productive and fulfilling use of your time, and it means your pre-loved items can bring joy into other people’s lives.
Once you’ve rearranged your bedroom and made it less chaotic by organising your clothing in a better way, you’ll soon turn your attention to the interior design aspects of it.
If you’ve got a tight budget for styling changes, one thing you could do is add wallpaper accents to your doors and furniture.
As you know, wallpaper is cheap enough to buy, and you’ve got a vast amount of choices and styles to choose from. What’s more, wallpaper is easier and quicker to remove than paint, should you change your mind in the future.
If you’re very house proud and spend a lot of time cleaning your home each week, you can probably ignore this section. However, if you’re a busy person that seldom does cleaning unless absolutely necessary, now’s the time to keep on top of your bedroom cleanliness.
One secret about regular cleaning is that it gets quicker to complete the more often you do it. Also, keeping your bedroom clean at all times makes you feel happier about your personal space.
Lastly, you should buy some fragrant candles if you haven’t already got any. Scented candles don’t just look attractive; they make your bedroom smell divine.
