How To Get Cheap Cinema Tickets

Going to the cinema is no longer a cheap activity. A ticket alone can cost you anything up to £20, and even a standard movie at a chain cinema can be £13-14 a time. And that’s for one person! So if you’re family cheap cinema tickets can be a godsend. Without them, you may not be able to justify the price.

I was at Cineworld a few weeks back and saw a mum with four kids going and their bill for tickets and snacks was over £80. I couldn’t justify that for a few hours of entertainment. So here are some ways to get cheap cinema tickets.

Make the most of Meerkat movies

If you buy certain insurance policies, switch utilities, or apply for a financial product through the comparison site Compare The Market you’ll get access to Meerkat Movies. This gives you 2 for 1 cinema tickets on a Tuesday or Wednesday for the whole year.

Meerkat Movies is valid at most cinema chains across the UK as well as a lot of independent chains. And you’ll also get access to Meerkat Meals which gets you 2 for 1 food at many chain and independent restaurants from Sunday to Thursday.

Did you know if getting your actual car or home insurance isn’t the cheapest this way you can just buy a single-trip travel insurance policy for £1 or £2 to qualify.

If you’re on Vodafone get cheap cinema tickets at Vue

If you’re a Vodafone mobile customer you can get two adult tickets for £7 at most Vue cinemas to see any 2D movie during the week. So at £3.50 a ticket you can’t afford to miss out.

This is available for any Vodafone pay monthly or small business contrac. If you’re on pay-as-you-go you’ll need to have topped up £10 or more in the last 60 days.

To get cheap cinema tickets just download or sign into the My Vodafone App and go to ‘VeryMe’ which gives you access to loads of offers including the Vue deal. Then you’ll be able to claim a promo code for two tickets for £7.

This offer can be used once a week and refreshes at 00:001 on a Monday.

If you’re on Three get cheap cinema tickets at Cineworld or Picturehouse

If you’re a Three mobile customer and have a Cineworld or Picturehouse cinema you can get a code for a £3 adult cinema ticket. The code is valid on any 2D movie once a week on a Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. This is great as a lot of places limit weekend cheap cinema tickets.

All you have to do is go onto the Three+ rewards app and search Cineworld or Picturehouse. Select ‘Get Reward’ and you’ll get a code. When you’re ready to book click ‘Use reward code now’ and claim the code on the relevant cinema website.

You will have to pay a 75p booking fee with Cineworld and 70p with Picturehouse but it’s still a great deal. Codes again refresh at 00:01 on a Monday.

If you’re on O2 phone or Virgin Media broadband get a free cinema ticket

Customers of O2 or Virgin Media broadband can get a free Odean adult ticket each week which can be used for any 2D screening on a Sunday or Monday.

Codes are limited and you can get it by searching ‘Odeon’ on the Priority App. Free ticket codes are released at 12 pm on a Wednesday for the following week. All you have to do is click ‘Use Now’ and you’ll be directed to the Odeon website to book. You can put your Priority code into the special code box at checkout.

There are 6,000 Monday tickets available, 3,000 Sunday tickets, and 1,000 Sunday Kid’s screenings. You will need to book your ticket in advance to take advantage of this.

Swap Clubcard vouchers for cheap cinema tickets

If you have a Tesco Clubcard and get vouchers you can put them towards Cineworld or Picturehouse cinema tickets. Doing this gives you three times the value so 50p in Clubcard vouchers becomes £1.50 when exchanged to a cinema code. So a standard £12 ticket will only cost you £4 of points.

If you’ve got at least £10 in Clubcard vouchers you can even use it towards a Cineworld Unlimited card (more on that below).

Get an unlimited card if you go to the cinema often

If like me you love going to the movies but don’t go as often as you’d like due to the expense look into a cinema card. Odean have a limitless card and Cineworld do the Unlimited card, but other chains and cinemas may do a similar thing.

You usually pay a set amount per month around £15-20 and you can see any movies you want. We have a Cineworld unlimited card at £18 a month and save so much money. All you need to do is see three movies every other month and you’d already saved money. By doing this I see a lot more movies than I would usually as I don’t feel like I’m wasting money if I see an average movie.

Going to the cinema as a family

Most cinemas offer a family ticket which can be cheaper but still expensive.

Cineworld offers ‘Movies for Juniors’ with screenings costing £2.50 for kids aged 14 and under and accompanying adults. This offer is available on weekends and school holidays.

Odeon Kids screenings are also just £2.50 a ticket for kids aged 14 and under and accompanying adults. Again this is available on weekends and school holidays.

At Vue they run ‘Mini Mornings’ screenings for £2.49 for kids aged 2-12 and accompanying adults. This is available every morning during school holidays and weekends after 10 am.

If you have an Empire close by you can get the best deal with ‘Empire Jnrs’ with £2 tickets for kids 14 and under and accompanying adults. This is available on weekends at selected cinemas.

Not bothered what you see?

You can get cheap cinema tickets at £6 via Odeon Screen Unseen which gives you access to a movie before it’s released to the masses.

But the catch is you won’t know what movie you’re seeing until it starts, but it will always have a max of a 15 rating. There are separate Scream Unseen tickets for 18+ movies.

So if you’re a movie lover who just wants to see something for a good price this could be an option for you.

Other ways to get cheap cinema tickets

Lloyds Bank’s Club Lloyds gives you six free Odeon or Vue tickets with their account. The account is fee-free as long as you pay in a minimum o £1,5000 a month. Otherwise, you can pay a £3 a month fee if you don’t.

Sign up to MyOdeon for free and save up to 60% on tickets. You can get cheaper tickets all-day on a Monday and at selected screenings the rest of the week. Discounts will differ depending on the film and location, and prices will be cheaper booking online.

If you’re disabled and need extra help, A CEA Card (developed by the UK Cinema Association) costs £6 a year and allows you to get a free ticket for a companion each time at most cinemas. To get the free ticket you’ll need to buy a full-priced ticket for yourself. You can apply for a card online and to be eligible you must be receiving either Disability Living Allowance, Attendance Allowance, Personal Independence Payment or Armed Forces Independence Payment, or hold a Severely Sight Impaired or Sight Impaired registration.
