*This is a collaborative post on nailing the interior design in your home
The new year is the perfect opportunity to make over your home décor. It’s a time to tap into current trends and refresh the areas that you’ve not had a chance to switch up for a while.
If you’ve been meaning to make some changes and you’ve been making plans this month to get things underway, here are some top interior design tips to make sure everything’s just perfect.
We’re seeing lots of trends for you to try this year.
In terms of colour, green is the colour that will be on walls, window dressings and accessories. From grassy tones to minty hues, the full spectrum of this colour will be everywhere, symbolising growth – a nice bookend to the last few years.
These greens will be offset by the warm neutrals that will be everywhere too. Think 90s creams, browns and beiges, creating a cosy feel to proceedings and making the move away from the cool greys that have dominated homes in recent years.
Of course, you have to love the trends to introduce them to your home. If you’d prefer to go your own way, why not choose colours that spark joy? Pantone’s Colour of the Year, the vibrant Viva Magenta, is a riot of colour and positivity.
Choose a colour scheme that suits you and your taste. You might want plain neutrals with colourful highlights or deep jewel tones everywhere. Take the time to work out what will suit the space and try to keep the theme running throughout your home in order to create a coherent design.
Getting your home interiors right also involves focusing on where you’ll put everything. Declutter and find a home for your belongings. You might decide to invest in drawers and cabinets, or you could try a bit of DIY.
Hanging floating shelves, for example, will require a bit of work, but this is both a stylish and practical option. You’ll need to make sure you have the right tools for the job, such as screws and a drill – you can pick up a quality drill from outlets like RS.
From there, measure the space and make sure you use a spirit level to get your shelving even. Then you can commit to drilling holes and screwing in brackets. Once you’ve finished, you’ll be able to display your books, plants, and other items in your redesigned room.
As well as updating the décor, this is your opportunity to move things around a bit. Try placing your bed in a different corner of the room or move the sofa to the opposite end of the living room.
While this can seem like a big task at first, you’ll be surprised by how different a room can look when you change things up.
Lighting is everything. Invest in standing lamps and pretty shades for the ceiling. As well as looking beautiful, the right lighting can enhance and totally transform a space.
