Happy February everyone, and congrats for making it through January. As every day passes we get closer to light mornings, and a later sunset which I can not wait for. The dream is to finish work and it not already being pitch black outside.
Being in the second month of the year means we’re almost at Valentine’s Day. Whether you’re celebrating with a loved one- partner or friends- or just want a reminder to love yourself, here are some ways to spread a little love.
Just because it’s Valentine’s Day doesn’t mean you have to go for a fancy formal dinner. Me and Luke aren’t fancy fine dining people and would much rather go out for causal food.
Buyagift do a load of different vouchers for foodie related treats from high street dining to some more unique options. I picked up a voucher for bottomless pizza and prosecco at Gordon Ramsay’s Street Pizza in London& (£72) because who doesn’t love prosecco and pizza?! They serve up pizza by the slice with loads of flavours including classic, meaty and vegetarian options. And they’ll keep coming back slice after slice for you to fill your belly with. Over 90 minutes you’ll get pizza and bottomless prosecco which sounds like a winning brunch.
I don’t go out all that often, and it’s pretty rare that I ‘dress up’, so I love any excuse to whack on a dress and feel a bit fancy. Although if I go out for dinner, I prefer a slightly more loose fitting dress so I feel comfortable after a few courses. I picked up this wine red puff sleeve dress* (£39.99) in the hope we head out for a nice meal soon.
It has long puff sleeves so it’s not too warm, but it covers your arms which I’m always grateful for in this cold weather. It’s a really flattering midi length with an adjustable belted tie waist.

Valentine’s Day is a really good excuse to buy some new underwear. Not because we should be buying pretty stuff for our partner, but because there’s so much choice at this time of year.
There’s something that feels so nice about a new bra, and this lace balcony bra* (£17.99) is such a beautiful colour. There’s no padding so it’s a great everyday bra. We should be wearing pretty underwear all the time, and not just for special occasions.
With Valentine’s Day falling on a Tuesday it’s not the easiest day to go out and celebrate. So a voucher for a treat to look forward to is a great option. You have something to give on the day, and an activity to look forward to.
Red letter days have vouchers for every type of activity from a spa day, or afternoon tea to bungee jumping or cake making. I picked out a voucher for tickets to a west end show* (£129.99). I love going to see a show and this gives me a excuse to go. There are loads of different shows to pick from, but I booked me and Luke to see The Book of Mormon. We’ve both already seen the show before, but never together. So it will be a special trip for us, and something I’ve booked for us not long before our wedding.
Everything is bloody freezing at the moment, and most times I don’t even face going out. So for Valentine’s Day you could opt to stay in and get cosy.
Treat yourself to an indulgent bath with some beautiful treats from ARRAN Sense of Scotland.
There’s a new addition to their After the Rain collection in the form of bath salts* (£16). The range is a mixture of floral and citrus scent, crafted to emulate the unique scent of an Arran garden after a rain shower. The salts are a mixture of natural sea salt and magnesium-rich Epsom salt.
All you need to do is a handful or two to the bath while the hot water is running and let the minerals soothe your muscles.
Anyone who knows me knows I’m a massive book worm, there’s nothing better than a cosy night with a new book.
39 plus one was published by Ragh Bir in November and tells the story of singleton Rachel Collins. She has a great friendship circle, loving and supportive parents, and enjoys her job. But on her 39th birthday she embarks on a mission to find love. For a year she will date anyone who shows interest regardless of his looks in the hope of finding her soulmate. She hopes brushing aside her high standards will help her find ‘the one’ before she turns 40.
She shares her dating disasters with her best friends Harriet and Naomi and on her 40th birthday questions in the last year was worth it all. The book was a really fun read that was easy to follow and I absolutely loved the character of Rachel. It’s nice to read fiction about women in their late 30’s as most books I read seem to be about 20 year olds.
It would be Valentine’s Day without something yummy and heart shaped. And Haribo have you covered with special edition heart throbs. This year alongside the traditional strawberry red hearts you’ll find a box full of fruity flavours including peach, lemon, apple & elderflower, raspberry and blackcurrant.
Tracklements have come through with the savoury treats, and you can give he gift of heat with their award-winning Fresh Chilli Jam* (£6.80). The sticky-sweet chilli jam packs a punch with the heat of fresh red chillies. It has so many uses from an additional in a tomato based pasta sauce to being a dipper for spring rolls or cheese sticks.

For us it’s just an excuse for a nice meal, but we rarely go on the day itself x
I like the idea of doing things for others on the day. Cooking and baking for friends would be a great way to spread some love.
I need to try and remember to do some baking in advance so we have some for Valentine’s Day x
I try to make the most of the holiday and if I’m just with friends and family that’s just as fun. Sounds like some great ways to celebrate!
