*This is a collaborative post on planning a self-care day

Everyone needs a self-care day from time to time. There has been a lot more discussion surrounding self-care and mental health in recent times, which has been fantastic to see. So, how can you go about planning a self-care day that will help you unwind and enjoy yourself? Everyone is different, but this is what a helpful day could look like.

Morning of your self-care day

First, you should think about what you want to do on the day. It is sometimes hard to know how you will feel, so you should wait until you wake up and consider your options in a low-stress manner. A nice peaceful way to start your morning would be meditating or reading a book while drinking Matcha tea, which many people find to be soothing and relaxing.

You should also get your day off to a good start with a healthy breakfast, which will give you the energy required for whatever you do. Eggs, porridge, or Greek yogurt are good options that will set you up nicely.

Exercise outside

It is then a good idea to do some kind of exercise that will get you out of the house. Leaving the house will always be good for your mental health, especially when it involves exercise and spending time in nature. This could involve going for a walk, running, cycling, or playing sports. This will give you a mental health boost and help you feel productive.

The afternoon of your self-care day

After working up a sweat, you will want to take the time to pamper yourself with a nice shower or bath. You can then spend some time on skin self-care, like a face mask that will help you rejuvenate and feel your best.

After lunch, a creative outlet is a nice way to unwind and avoid excessive screen time (it is helpful to avoid too much screen time on your day off!). Drawing, painting, or writing can be therapeutic and help you express yourself.

The evening

In the evening, it is a nice idea to take the time to make yourself a healthy yet comforting meal – there are lots of good recipes online for all skill levels. You can then unwind before bed with a film or TV series, although it is a good idea to avoid using screens for an hour or so before bed so that you can fully disconnect and get a good night’s sleep.

Hopefully, this post will inspire you to take a self-care day and give you a few ideas for what you can do to relax. It will depend on the person, but a self-care day is a great opportunity to forget about the stresses of your daily routine and take some time to look after yourself. This should be a reset that will help you feel happier, energized, and refreshed the next day.
