Essentials We’re Keeping In Our Bedroom For Our Newborn

We’re on major baby countdown and we’ve now finished sorting out everything we’re keeping in our bedroom for our newborn. Waking up and seeing her cot and our set up has made things feel even more real for me.

When we head into our room at night the plan is we don’t want to have to leave until the morning. So I don’t want to be running into the nursery for supplies, or to change nappies (if at all possible). One of the reasons is just so there’s no risk of the cats running in. Our cats are great and they will be the best big brothers to our baby but it’s much easier not having to chase them out in the middle of the night.

Here are some of the essentials we’re keeping in our bedroom for our newborn. If there are any obvious ones I’ve missed please let me know.

Feeding stuff in our bedroom for our newborn

I know baby is going to need a lot of feeding during the night, especially during the first few weeks. I hope to be able to breastfeed, although I’m not going to put too much pressure on myself if this isn’t possible. But if I do breastfeed I am going to have a feeding pillow handy alongside things like nipple cream/ shields etc in case I need them. I’ve also got the vitamin D drops in each of our nappy caddies to use.

Then if we do end up going down the formula route (or eventually mixing it up) we’ll have formula, sterilised bottles and some of the rapid cool bottles alongside a thermos of boiling water to cover all bases.

I’m also going to make sure there’s a supply of water and snacks for me as I’ve heard you need to eat/ drink more when breastfeeding.

Cleaning stuff

The other thing that’s going to happen a lot in our bedroom is changing so we’re going to set up a little changing station with all the essentials we think we’ll need in a nappy caddy including:

In each of our nappy caddies we also have some things like the nasal suckers/ things for congested noses etc.

Sleeping items we’re keeping in our bedroom for our newborn

The main thing that takes up space in our bedroom is baby girls bedside cot. We picked the Tutti Bambini CoZee bedside crib in the January sales as it seemed like the best option for us. The bed will have a waterproof cover and sheet on it, but we’re going to have some spares stashed away just in case of an accident.

Alongside the spare sheets we’re also going to have a spare sleeping bag and swaddle (depending on what she prefers).

Other things

We picked up a night light/ white noise machine as they seemed quite popular. And I like the idea of having a little bit of light so I don’t need to turn much on for night feeds. In our bedroom nappy caddy we also have a thermometre, although we’re quite lucky with our air con that we can climate control our room and keep it at a constant temperature regardless of how it is outside. We also have a large supply of muslins as everyone seems to swear by them.

Am I missing any essentials for keeping in our bedroom for our newborn?

Looks like my sister needs to change what she’s using. Sounds like this is more great thank she is using now.

Sounds like you are totally organised. My daughter-in-law is due in three weeks we are getting really excited. I’m not sure how organised she is, because we are out of the country at the moment.

It is so useful to have things at hand rather than having to keep going to another room. Especially things like cloths, wipes and nappies for sure!

It sounds like you are really prepared for your newborn! It’s great that you got some of the items on a sale, babies are so expensive.

This is so cool and I had no idea you guys had a newborn. Congrats yo you! What a special time and I hope breastfeeding works out for you….. I breastfed all of mine and I will say it makes it so much easier for those night time feedings…. no heating of milk or formula required. You can do it for sure…..if I can anyone can šŸ˜‰
