The Reality of Getting Dressed as a Working Mum

Before becoming a mum, getting dressed was something I barely thought about. I’d throw on an outfit, check it looked vaguely presentable, and head out the door. Now? Getting dressed is a completely different experience.

Between nursery drop-offs, going back to work (eek), running errands, trying to squeeze in a social life and everything else that comes with being a parent, my wardrobe needs to work harder than ever. I need clothes that are comfortable enough for real life but still make me feel like I’ve made an effort.

And honestly, I’ve reached a point where I’m no longer willing to sacrifice comfort in the name of style.

Mum life doesn’t stop

One thing I’ve learned over the past year is that there’s very little point owning clothes that only work for one part of your day.

A typical day might involve:

• Getting Scarlett ready in the morning,
• Working from home,
• Popping to the supermarket,
• Meeting a friend for coffee, and
• Heading out for dinner in the evening.

I don’t have time to constantly change outfits between activities, which means versatility has become one of the most important things I look for when shopping.

I want pieces that feel comfortable enough for everyday life but still look polished enough that I feel put together.

Why comfort matters more than ever

Motherhood has completely changed the way I shop.

I’m much more focused on practicality than I used to be, but that doesn’t mean I want to compromise on style.
