Little Things Which Make Me Smile

August 19, 2016

In a world where I don’t even want to read the news because another tragedy might have happened, and in a time where jobs are tough to get, houses are hard to afford and life is generally hard it can be the little things which get us through. Sometimes it doesn’t take a lot to change my solemn/ anxious/ sad mood to one of smiles and happiness; it might be a single YouTube video or a conversation with a friend. Here are some of the things which are almost certainly guaranteed to put a smile on my face and remind me that life can be pretty great.

Cats

Literally anything to do with cats is likely to make me smile from watching a cute video on YouTube to popping round a friends and having one not look like it wants to kill me. Unfortunately, as I’m in a second floor flat and am never in I can’t have a cat of my own but with a computer full of cat photos I just need to browse through to get that warm fuzzy feeling.

Having a  Lush filled bath

I rarely stop and actually relax. I might be watching a movie but I’ll be replying to e-mails as well, but when I have a bath it’s complete relaxation and there’s very little else I can do. I go out all out when I have relaxing baths by lighting some candles and popping in a lush bath bomb so I can watch the bath water change to something pretty.

Lazy Day

Finding out something I want is on sale

I don’t tend to buy things on impulse that often (unless I’m on holiday). I’m the person who will research various sites for prices, read reviews on products and look around for discount codes, so nothing makes me happier than finally thinking I’ll place my order/ make a purchase and finding out that it’s on sale. Some things are just meant to be.

A friend asking to meet up

I am usually the organizer with pretty much all the friends I have and I am the one who plans things, invites people and generally sorts out awesome things to do. So when a friend plans something and invites me or suggests we do something it makes me so happy because it means they’ve actually thought of me and not waited for me to organize something. Little things but guaranteed to make me smile.

Booking something

This can be anything from cinema/ theatre tickets to flights or a hotel to go away. I get this massive buzz when I book something as it means plans are coming together, and being a bit of a control freak I like to organize and plan everything to a T. Knowing I have a day/ evening/ weekend planned just eases any anxiety I might have that plans won’t happen.

Ticking off things from my achievement lists

Being a complete sucker for lists (and wanting to put as much in my bullet journal as possible) I have achievement lists; things I want to achieve each year. It makes me so happy when I achieve one of them as they’re not simple things like I have on my to-do lists they’re more life goals and aspirations.

This list has made me smile reading the little things you enjoy are the same things I do…though I may prefer French Bulldog videos to cats 😉 I agree, the world seems to be full of so much horror atm, so it has really made me enjoy the little things, no matter how small.

    Thanks for sharing!

These things all make me smile too. The funny things my kids do make me smile, measuring out the right amount of ingredients on the first go does too – like 50 grams of butter, exactly. A bit like peeling long strips of wallpaper or getting the fuel right on the .00 🙂
