The End Of A Decade – December Overview

January 3, 2020

That’s it, 2019 is over. In the blink of an eye, the final year of my 20’s is over. Normally I’d be gutted for the year to be over, but I am absolutely buzzing for 2020 and the brand new year. I had a wonderful Christmas celebrating with family and friends other than my boxing day evening. And I actually had a good amount of time off work to relax and have some me-time which was nice. Plus I have some more time off planned for January so it’s not too bad. Here’s what I got to over the month

Birthdays and celebrations in December

One of my friends birthdays falls on Christmas Eve and we had an early celebration this year. We headed to Ballie Ballerson to pretend to be kids and jump around in a ball pit. It was a very fun evening and it was lovely catching up with some people I hadn’t seen in a while.

Later that week we had our work Christmas meal at Las Iguanas which was really nice. I love the food there and it was nice to see some of the team outside of work.

Gigs and events

At the very start of the month, we headed to the Scala in Kings Cross to see Counterfeit. I realised I hadn’t been to a proper gig in almost six months, but this one was worth the wait. Later the same week I went to Wembley to see The Nightmare Before Christmas live. I booked this event a whole year before so it felt like a long time coming, but it was amazing. A live band playing all of the music alongside the movie alongside singers recreating all the songs. Danny Elfman (singing voice of Jack Skellington and Barrel), Catherine O’Hara (Sally and Shock) and Ken Page (Oogie Boogie) were all there singing their songs live which was incredible.

Moving away from music I went along to the Intu Watford Christmas Blogging Event. It was lovely to catch up with some bloggers I’d met before, and some I hadn’t. I always love working with Intu as the team are great!

The weekend before Christmas I went to see Bury Tomorrow in Camden. They played their latest album in full and I’m going, to be honest, I didn’t know it all that well. But either way the show, and the company, was great!

Movies and sing-a-longs

I wasn’t sure that I’d get to see all that many movies this month as December is always busy. But I did pretty well. It started off with Jumanji 2 which was pretty good. I loved the first one, and although this was still funny it wasn’t quite as good as the first one. Then over the 18th and 19th December we did the Star Wars triple bill which was great. It was so good to refresh my memory with what happened in episodes 7 and 8. And episode 9 was great, although I may have missed a few bits as I was a little sleepy by that point. To make up for it we went for a second viewing just before New Year and I reiterate it was great.

I gave in and saw CATS and it was as bad as the reviews made out. I usually like most things I see but it just wasn’t very good. There was little consistency with the cats; some had shoes, some had furry human feet and some just had normal human feet. Cats wearing coats just seemed strange. But without a coat, Idris Elba looked totally naked!

I also did my annual trip to the Prince Charles Cinema in Leicester Square for The Nightmare Before Christmas sing-a-long. I always love going as it’s great to hear so many like-minded people singing along. And I won free tickets to go back as I had the best nightmare merch, woop!

Games nights and evenings out

I made my very first trip to the local board game cafe this month with Luke, my friend and her boyfriend. It was great to spend time together, but also to discover some new games. We played loads of easy play games so it was pretty fast-paced and enjoyable. On the same day, I headed with my mum and Luke to check out the new Greek restaurant which has opened in Watford. It’s safe to say I loved it as I’ve already earmarked it for my birthday meal. Their halloumi and chicken was amazing.

Me and Luke had a lovely mini festive day out in London near the start of the month. We spent the day relaxing and wandering around the city seeing the festive decorations. And then we ended up at the Hotel Chocolat school of chocolate doing their Bean to Bar workshop. We learnt a lot about chocolate making and it’s history. We got to try a lot of chocolate, and we even got to make our own chocolate bars which was really cool.

Just before Christmas me and Luke did a quiz at the board game cafe alongside my friend and her boyfriend. I wasn’t expecting us to do too well, but we came 4th out of about 13 teams. And we were only 4 points behind the winners, so it was very close.

Christmas time and festivities

I had a lovely Christmas period and was very lucky to have 8 days off work which was nice. I also had New Year’s Eve and New Years Day off which was an added bonus. Over Christmas Eve, Christmas Day and Boxing Day we saw lots of family and generally had a lovely time.

Sadly Boxing Day evening didn’t quite turn out how we’d expected after being in a crash on the M4 motorway on the way home. Thankfully everyone’s okay but our poor Mercedes might well be written off which makes me very sad. We’ll see what 2020 has in store for the car situation.

I went to see the new Star Wars film last week and really enjoyed it (I’m a huge fan so I’m glad it lived up to expectations). My Nan keeps asking me if I want to go and see CATS but I just can’t bring myself to do it considering how many bad reviews it’s had. May wait until it’s on TV or Netflix.

It sounds like you had a lovely Christmas up until Boxing Day evening! Glad to hear everyone’s okay and hope your car situation works itself out x

CATS is just not worth wasting the time on. I’m just glad I have an unlimited card at Cineworld so didn’t pay to see it otherwise I’d have been even more disappointed x

Oh wow it sounds like you had an incredible month, I really wanted to go see some movies at the cinema but I just never seem to have the time. It’s a shame that the CATS movie wasn’t great.

It is so relieving to read that all was ok with your crash. You definitely deserve some time off to recover. Other than that it sounds like December was a good month.

I am really sad that the reviews for CATS is so bad, on the stage it is just brilliant!
