London in Summertime is always so much better than London at any other time of the year (other than Christmas) so it’s the perfect time to do some outdoorsy stuff.
What’s better than London when it’s sunny? That’s right London this Summer on the water which is exactly how me and a few friends spent a Sunday evening with Go Boat. The boats hold up to eight people but we went with just four of us taking along our own little picnic to eat during our journey. You can hire the boats for as many hours as you like and we had two hours which was enough time to ride all the way from Paddington where it all began to Camden and back again. When we began we were given a little guidance on how to steer the boat, some rules of the canals etc but really anyone can drive the boat (as long as you haven’t been drinking of course).
My friend was captain and although it took a little bit of time getting used to how the boat steered and we knocked into a few things she got the hang of it and our journey went really well. It was definitely a great way to spend a few hours and a great way to see the city in another light.
Ever since doing the tour I’ve been meaning to book up for a play at Shakespeare’s Globe and it’s such a great thing to do in London this Summer as the theatre is open-air and there are plays on from now right through to October including King Lear, Much Ado about Nothing, Romeo and Juliet and more. You can choose to stand in the yard and make the experience more authentic and these tickets are just £5.95 or you can choose a seat around the outside, but it’s an experience I want in London this summer time.
Outdoor cinemas are great to do in London this Summer as you get to see a new movie or a well-loved favourite outdoors in some pretty cool settings. The Rooftop Film Club has four venues across London in Peckham, Shoreditch, Stratford and Kensington and you get a comfy chair to relax back in, wireless headphones so you can always hear and blankets in case it gets nippy. There’s plenty of movies that you can go and see throughout London this Summer in May, June, July and August.
Of course, going out in London is nothing without choosing the best food and Dinerama is a great street food market in Shoreditch where there’s an array of different food and drink stands selling everything from pun-tastic wraps like the ‘Lambuel L Jackson’ through to Dumplings and Nachos. There’s plenty of bar space including a great Gin Bar which we loved. You can’t rely on good weather in London this summer so although there’s outdoor space there’s also a great indoor area upstairs so you can retreat into the safety if the heavens open.
I have been meaning to do Go Ape for ages and there’s one in London in Trent Park where you can climb around in the treetops, fling yourself down zip wires and on Tarzan Swings and it just seems like such good fun. This would definitely be much better in nicer weather which you can’t rely on in London this summer so I think I’d just chance it on the day as opposed to pre-booking just in case.

Some great things to do here. I’m a huge fan of Go Ape after trying the one in Leeds so no doubt the one in London is well worth a go!
What a great variety of activities to do. I really want to take my kids to see a proper play but so far haven’t been quick enough where I live to get tickets. Plus, I’m a little jealous you’re heading into summer – wanna swap for our Aussie winter? Please?
Amazing ideas! I literally did a Blogpost on 10 Summer Date Ideas in London today! Crazy how much there is to do in London!
Hi Rhian
Thank you for your great ideas. At the moment we are in Tunbridge Wells, so pretty close. We will probably do a few of your ideas, before we start our journey to the next stay.

Such fabulous suggestions Rhian! I have some friends heading to London this summer, in fact one is there right now, gonna share your link with her so she gets to experience London and everything it has to offer.
Great ideas for the summer! I really love going to the Globe – that whole Southbank stretch is just the perfect place to spend a summer’s day.
I would love to go on a boat in London, a day relaxing and seeing things sounds amazing. I’m coming over in October and I’m so excited already, it’s one of my favs to visit x
I haven’t be to London for years in fact the last time I went I slept on the streets with my nan and thousands of others for princess Diana’s funeral. I’ve always found the thought of going really daunting as it’s so busy but there is so much I want to do and a boat trip is one.
These are some fantastic ideas – I’ve always thought that Go Ape looks like so much fun and who wouldn’t want to visit the Globe?
I really miss dinerama, I miss london in general! go ape is also a great alternative activity and I love it
I love the idea on going on a boat around London, and how cute having a picnic on it. I think I need to do this next time!
I have been to the Globe twice but never watched anything yet but this year I hope to get a chance to watch something for sure.
I absolutely love the Globe. I used to go there every year as a student, but I haven’t been in years! Will definitely take my children when they’re older.
There’s so much to do in London, you could never get bored! I’d like to go to the Globe one day
Oh It’s been a while since I’ve been to London. This post has made me determined to get myself there to try out some of these fab ideas! x
