Things I’ve Been Loving In May

June 5, 2018

I know I do this every single month but how is May over already?! I am really enjoying the extended sunlight hours and the weather we’ve had so far has been nice although I’m not ready for it to get warmer. For me it’s now full-on festival season with Slamdunk kicking it off over Bank Holiday so that’s pretty exciting. Without further ado here are some products I’ve been loving in May.

Skincare

First of all, there’s been another tanning product that I’ve been loving now the weather is getting a bit warmer and that’s the St Moriz Tan & Protect Cream with SPF 30*. I’m really trying to make an effort to wear sunscreen every single day whether it’s sunny or not as I know my skin will thank me when I’m older so having a tanning cream which has this is perfect. This is more of a glowy moisturiser as opposed to a heavy tanning cream which is great for me as it would look too artificial if I was suddenly super bronzed. It’s really hydrating which my skin is loving and it leaves my skin feeling really smooth and soft which is just what you want from a body cream.

ABH Single Eyeshadow

Beauty

Up until last month, I’d never tried any eyeshadow from Anastasia Beverley Hills despite lusting over the Modern Renaissance palette for ages. For me, I just have a lot of palettes and wanted to ensure the formula was top-notch before investing in the full palette so when a discount code from Feel Unique landed in my inbox I thought it was time to try out a single shadow. I opted for Blazing which is a pretty safe brown shade but something I use a lot of and I’m so happy with both the colour and formula. The shadow is really build-able so I can use just a small swipe for a little colour or really build it for a deeper brown shade, and it doesn’t really have any fallout which is great as I do my eyeshadow after my foundation and concealer which I really need to get out of the habit of. Now I’ve tried this I’m really keen to get a palette but I might need to finish a few others first.

Now it might seem a little strange to have a razor as one of my May favourites but I’ve been loving the Wilkinson Sword Intuition f.a.b razor*. I’m usually pretty fickle when it comes to razors and just buy whatever is on offer in Boots but this has genuinely been something a little bit more special. As it has bi-directional blades it means that it can move forward and back without you having to lift away, this has been such a game-changer for me as it has reduced to the amount of time I spend shaving. In the summertime when you’re shaving quite often this is great news as freshly shaved legs feel and look great but it can just be a pain.

Haircare

As I go through shampoos and conditioners like crazy I always find that I’m talking about a new hair care product as, to be honest, I’m pretty fickle when it comes to hair care and I generally tend to stick to high street brands, especially on shampoo so the Phil Smith collection from Sainburys is a great budget buy. As it’s getting warmer I find that the sun tends to dry out my hair so a hydrating shampoo is a must and I’ve been loving the Hello Moisture Nourishing Repair Shampoo* which does just that and pushes moisture in my hair, and even after blowdrying my hair it doesn’t feel like all the moisture has gone.

Phil Smith Shampoo

I’ve been pairing this with the Gently Does it Ultra Soothing Conditioner* as I find in the sun my scalp can get a bit sore and because this has Tea Tree and Fresh Mint in it it’s really cooling, plus I absolutely love the scent. Much like the shampoo, it’s really hydrating as I find it locks in a lot of moisture into my hair leaving it silky smooth.

As it’s starting to get warmer and I’ve freshly dyed my hair I’ve been using Nanogen’s Root Boost Hair Thickening Spray* every day especially when I blow dry my hair as the spray helps to minimize colour fading and protects it from the sunshine. Since using it I have found that my hair seems brighter and hasn’t faded as quickly as it usually does so it’s definitely worked well in conjunction with my shampoo and conditioner. It works really well on damp hair as it also works as a great detangler and my hair doesn’t seem to pull out quite as much when I brush it after washing.

Grapefruit Candle

Lifestyle

I had to throw in a mention to this candle I bought from Matalan as I am absolutely in love with it and I’ve finished it in record time for me. I tend to swap out scents at this time of the year and make my candles more summery with citrus and fresher scents and this Grapefruit and Neroli candle smells amazing. It has a good scent even before you burn it but when you do light it the scent really throws itself around the area without being overpowering. It was such good value at £6 for a really big jar, I’m definitely going to be popping back to see if I can grab another one now I’m finished with mine.

Slabb Chocolate. The Gin One

The Slabb is a chocolate company and they have 11 core flavours which include the one I have above called ‘The Gin One’*. You can choose each bar in white, milk and dark chocolate and each one has loads of toppings including alcohol ganache in the boozy bars. There’s so much customisation within the brand but the core range are available all year round which I’m happy about as the gin chocolate was so good that me and Luke ate it so quickly. It was fresh tasting with the slight citrus flavouring and the white chocolate prevented it from being too heavy.

The company have just launched a chocolate subscription box and I can’t wait to sample some more chocolate as it’s always such a treat to get edible things through the post. Never satisfied with what they have the duo behind The Slabb launched a Kickstarter campaign to create 100 different limited edition chocolate bars which go out to subscribers and any leftover are sold at the beginning of the month but be warned as they always sell out.

The final thing I’ve been loving in May is 13 Reasons Why. I’m a bit behind and didn’t watch season 1 when it was hyped so only started it this month and I have been loving it. I thought it might be a bit too intense for me as I haven’t watched anything like this for a long time but it was created in such a digestible way that I was hooked even though of course the subject matter is still pretty intense.

Love the sound of the Slabb chocolate, that looks and sounds delicious. Mind you I am a sucker for a decent candle as well (not to eat obviously!) and need to track down a Matalan nearby, that’s great value! 🙂 xE

Well that chocolate might just ruin my healthy eating. 13 Reasons Why is a great choice for a favourite, I loved it, even the less than happy parts were incredibly poignant and well done.

I love the sound of the hair spray, I colour my hair darker than it actually is and it always fades in the sun. It can go quite coppery when its meant to be dark brown! So will be giving this ago to try and protect it. Thanks for the inspiration
