In a world where life is so hectic and most of us are working all the time either on full-time jobs or side hustles it can be tough to find time to do anything. Most of us are living in a world where we’re working longer hours and more often than ever before to build better lives for ourselves, but we’re also big into the self-care life where we want to do things which make us happy. The annoying thing is there’s never enough time to do everything you want to do.
I’m constantly trying to walk the fine line between work and pleasure but there are constantly times where I just want to sit on the sofa and watch a rubbish movie or soak in the bath with a magazine and I know I can’t. I try my best to balance things but most of the time it’s about being flexible and not being afraid to move around your schedule if needs be.
Taking ownership of time is so important as you don’t want to waste precious minutes, hours or days on something which you don’t enjoy and won’t be a benefit on your life in some way. For me, the biggest way I take ownership of my time is through lists and planning as I find it’s the best way to work out what needs to be done when so I can work out how much time I have.
I used to write everything down in my bullet journal but I found it ended up so messy as I was always moving when I wanted to complete tasks when things more important came in, so for this reason, I switched to a Google Doc. This means I can access it at home, on the go via my phone and at work to see my priority lists. As it’s digital I can copy and paste tasks and move them to another day if I need to. For example, if my evening plans suddenly fall through I can pick up a few bits I was going to do later in the week so I’m not too over-run other days. Or on the flip side if I realise that I won’t have as much time in the evening I can move some tasks which are not as time specific to another day, a lot of the time for me it’s cleaning, tidying and mundane tasks like adding items to eBay which tend to get bumped down.
When you’re trying to balance a career be it full-time work, being self-employed, all the side hustles under the sun or a combination of all of these taking ownership of your time and knowing what has to be done versus what can wait is so important. Remember not to take on too much because saying no isn’t a negative.
I am one of those people who constantly wear a watch and I find it’s a great way to take ownership of your time as I can glance down and see if I’m running late, on time or actually have ten minutes to sit down and relax. From my days working in a jewellers, I have to admit I have more watches than the average person, even though I’ve sold/ passed on quite a few. Recently I got a new watch from Adexe which is the Meek- Grande Rosegold* watch and it’s a really great everyday watch as the face is so clear so it’s easy to glance down and see the time on. The rose gold strap isn’t an overpowering colour so it matches well with all of my jewellery and the blackface is such a good contrast against the lighter metal.

It sounds like you are super organised with everything. Balance is key isn’t it?! Your watch is really lovely too.
Urgh I am awful at managing to keep track of time, I go off on tangents all the time! I will one day get it all on top of it all – but until then I will keep bumbling along as I do.
I completely understand where you are coming from with time issues and balamce. Work and personal merge, life gets hectic x
I am terrible at keeping track of time when I am not at work and completely lost without my watch
My mummy feels your pain about balancing full time work, free time and blogging. Its hard and she really needs to invest in a watch!! Plus she needs more hours in the day!
I’m exactly the same. I use Google Docs and Sheets to plan everything. If you haven’t got a list, how else will you know what you need to do!
I can’t function without a watch, it feels odd not knowing what the time is. I live by the time and constantly worry about being late.
I started wearing a watch a few years ago and it has helped me so much to keep track of time and make the most of my day. Beautiful watch!
Im awful at time keeping and making the most of the time that i have its something that i really want to address, loving the watch as well, very cute x
Having time for everything is a struggle for me now especially that I just gave birth to my first son. But I guess the key is to have a better time management.
i hate time ,appointments, clockkeeping and having to work around it all x
That watch is absolutely gorgeous! I’m so guilty of taking on too much work…in fact, I’ve done it now! Before the end of July, I agreed to take on quite a few bits for the blog and my second child was born on the 29th and I’m now playing catch up!
balance is hard when social.media plays a part in your job . i am loving the cosi shared calander atm it has stopped so many arguments between me and my partner
I’m quite organised with my time because I have to be, but I was much happier when I realised that balance isn’t always about having everything perfectly at 50:50 work and family. Sometimes family takes priority, sometimes work does, and that natural ebb and flow is ok š
Hey Rhian! Thank you so much for your post! Glad to see that the watches help you in your everyday life to take the time, make the time, find balance! ADEXE Team <3
