How Often Do Men Really Buy Flowers For Valentines Day?

Valentines Day is such a strange holiday as it’s so commercial and is seemingly pushed on all of us as a day where we have to smoother our loved one with gifts. But then on the other hand I do think it’s a nice holiday and a good excuse to go out for a nice meal (or cook at home) and just have a day for the two of you to really show how much you love each other.

Before I met Luke I had never been bought flowers before in my whole 26 year’s, I only had them when I was sent them from brands (which was always a great surprise) or when I picked up a bunch for myself. I still remember on the first birthday that we were together the door rang and I was so confused and when I opened it up there was a big bunch of flowers which Luke had arranged to be delivered. I am a big fan of flowers although they don’t always have to be big expensive bunches, just something to brighten up the area.

Which men are the most romantic?

Serenata Flowers did some research into the most romantic men across the country and it showed Hertfordshire as the place where more men buy flowers for the most romantic day of the year. When quizzed a whopping 94% of men said that flowers were their first choice for Valentines Day, although how many actually bought some is another story.

I spoke to some fellow bloggers in relationships or married to find out whether flowers are their partners go to Valentines Day present and it was a very mixed bag. Some always get them on Valentines Day like Emma at Fashion Mommy who said “My hubby gets me flowers on Valentine’s Day as well as a pressie. He usually hides them in the car and when I get up on Valentine’s day they are just there waiting. I love fresh flowers so they always make me happy.” This is such a nice tradition to have although a lot people said they’d get them on Valentines Day but also at other points of the year.

Julie at Pondering Parenthood said “My husband buys me flowers for Valentine’s day because he knows that I love roses. But he also buys them at other times of the year, if he knows that I’ve been having a rough week or been feeling a bit blue. This might only be a few times a year, though, which makes it more surprising and special. I think if he bought them all the time, it wouldn’t mean as much.”

Is it traditional to buy flowers for Valentines Day?

Not everyone gets flowers though as Karen from Really Missing Sleep said “My husband bought me flowers when we first got together but now only when he is in the dog house and done something wrong! It would be nice to have them just because but that’s not happened in years!” Although for some people like Charlotte they don’t mind not having flowers “I have never had flowers from a partner. This may seems strange to some people but this is just the case we spend our money on other things”.

And some get flowers randomly but not specifically for Valentines Day including Tina at Girls Gospel who said “My hubby has never bought me flowers for Valentine’s Day. He buys them occasionally “just because”, but has never ordered them online for me.” and Poppy who said “My partner of 9 years buys me flowers but not so much on valentines day. He really only buys them for less annual events like I got a new job, I was in dance show or got a promotion at work etc. When he does buy them he never buys online and always goes to the florist. I think he likes to see them in person first. “

One tradition which I think is really is what Charlotte Bruce’s partner does “I haven’t really got flowers for Valentine’s Day off my partner – We do Flower Fridays where he surprises me with a new bouquet every week. Who knows, maybe I shall get flowers a day early this week!”. Imagine having flowers every week, it’s the dream isn’t it?!

While I do love a bunch of traditional roses, they aren’t always the chosen flowers which are bought, Gemma of Hemingwaysisters says “My husband will buy me flowers but not traditional ones. I love lilies so he just usually buys me some of those from Asda or Aldi. I don’t think it should be about the price more about the thought and love at Valentine’s.”.

I can count the number of bouquets I’ve received throughout my life on one hand – and that is no exaggeration! I’m always single on Valentines Day somehow.

I rarely get brought flowers, my husband has brought me them in the past but we both agree not to, the last flowers I had was from my Mother in Law to say thank you x

I don’t think often enough! In the 11 years I’ve been with my partner he’s bought them once?

My husband bought me some flowers last night, but at my request they were just a cheapie bunch. I do love roses but they can be a bit costly and we don’t have the spare money right now. Happy Valentines, Mich x

My husband doesn’t do flowers, ever! I think I buy them through the year more often than he ever would, lol.

We normally don’t bother but I got flowers this morning and we always go out for a dinner – even if it’s a few days later, whenever we get babysitting 🙂

  9. Ashleigh Dougherty says:

I do think flowers are a bit of a waste of money considering how short they live! But they are pretty

  10. Olivia Jade says:

I do agree with what Pondering Parenthood said, flowers make great gifts for occasions, and it’s much better to receive them every now and then rather than all the time. I think the significance is very meaningful xx

  11. Jem says:

I regularly buy myself flowers as a nice treat for myself
