*I was a guest at Paradise Wildlife Park and provided with complimentary
access in exchange for coverage but all words and opinions are my own
I am a huge fan of zoo’s/ wildlife parks and they’re generally one of the first things I look for when I’m going away somewhere, the Berlin zoo is one of my all time favourites. But strangely enough, I’d never been to Paradise Wildlife Park located in Broxbourne, Hertfordshire less than a half an hour drive away from me which is pretty crazy, to be honest.
Before Christmas, I was invited along to Paradise Wildlife Park to see what the most-visited tourist attraction in Hertfordshire had to offer so I jumped at the chance. I went near the end of January and usually, I’d think otherwise about going to a wildlife park in the Winter but it was actually such a great experience and here’s why I loved my day out.
I’ve been to plenty of zoos in the Spring and Summertime and it’s been so crowded that you have to battle your way to actually see into some of the enclosures. Because zoos tend to be family days out I’m not going to push a child out of the way or obstruct their view in order to see so sometimes I don’t spend the time actually looking at the animals that I’d like. Going in the winter time I did find that I had all the time I wanted to really experience the animals, plus the good thing is how open a lot of the enclosures are.
Now I don’t know if I don’t usually pay much attention but a lot of zoo’s tend to have about 2 or maybe 3 big cats at max, usually lions, tigers and that’s about it but Paradise Wildlife Park have the ‘big five’ including jaguars, leopards, snow leopards, tigers and lions. I don’t remember seeing jaguars in many zoos so this was quite a treat to see especially as all the enclosures are quite open so they were all pretty easy to spot even on a colder day when they probably just wanted to huddle up and keep warm.
Now I am a huge fan of lions and the white lion enclosure is already pretty impressive at Paradise Wildlife Park but for Easter 2019 Paradise Wildlife Park are opening their new animal habitat, Lion Pride Lands, for the four white lions which live there. The new and much larger habitat will be the very first thing that visitors see when they come through the entrance and building work seemed to be getting on very well when we were there.
The new habitat will include a tree at the heart of the area that people can walk into and have the lions surround them alongside a large house area so people can see the lions indoors. I’ll definitely be trying to make a trip back to see how it looks.
Most zoo’s offer zookeeper experiences and chances to feed the animals but Paradise Wildlife Park seem to offer some bits I’ve not seen as often including ‘Snow Leopard Champagne Breakfast’ where you’ll get a guided tour before the park opens, a chance to hand feed the snow leopards and a champagne breakfast which is pretty special. I have my eyes on some of the photography courses which I have been meaning to look into for ages, imagine getting the chance to get closer to some of the animals while learning some more about photography?!
Now I don’t have kids so we didn’t look too deeply into exactly what’s on offer but there seemed to be plenty to keep the kids occupied from play areas through to Dinosaur World which is definitely geared towards kids. When we were there most of the other people there were parents with their kids and it must be such a great day out with the kids as there’s so much to look at and the animals are truly fascinating whether you’re old or young.

I haven’t been to an animal park in ages and really should, I also love seeing the animals and learning more about them.
It looks like a great day out! Have you been to Chester Zoo? I think you’d like it there as well!
I do love red pandas – they are a lot of fun to watch.
Ohh that lion looks amazing, we used to live close to Paradise Park and I always liked it there, I never found it too busy and the animals are very well looked after. Mich x
We love Paradise Wildlife Park, it is one of our favourite places to go for a family day out
I love it this time of of year for going to zoos as it’s nice when it’s not overcowded. I love the offer for experiences like a vip tour you mentioned and being able to hand feed the snow leopards.
Looks like you had a fab time out. A massive bonus that it wasn’t crowded too xx
I love going to seeing the animals and the boys do too. Sounds like a lovely way to spend a Saturday
This sounds like a great park. I love visiting animal parks and seeing the beautiful animals, giraffes are my favourite but my son would love the lions
Paradise wildlife park has been on my to-do list for ages. Looks like you had a fab time
What an incredible place to visit! I’m afraid I’m not a big fan of zoos and wildlife parks though; the animals always look so sad and trapped.
