Monday Night Meat Feasts At Middletons Watford – Restaurant Review

Even though I do try and eat cleaner and more veggie where possible, me and Luke are still huge carnivores with a steak dinner being one of our favourites. So when we were offered the chance to head to the Middletons Watford branch to review their restaurant I couldn’t accept fast enough. Middletons are a steakhouse and grill restaurant whose meats are all prepared in their own butchery in Norfolk which I think is pretty cool. Recently me and Luke have been watching some YouTube videos on butcheries and I find the whole process pretty fascinating, plus it’s nice to know that all the meat is being cut and dispatched from one hub.

Despite being a steakhouse there’s still a good amount of seafood and vegetarian choices and I have actually been to the Middletons Watford branch before with some veggie friends who really enjoyed their meals. There are just eight Middletons restaurants in the UK but they’re pretty spread with Watford, Milton Keynes, Chelmsford, Peterborough, Leicester, Kings Lynn, Colchester and Norwich all playing home to a restaurant.

Location of Middletons Watford

The Middletons branch in Watford is located in the ‘Met Quarter’ which plays host to a variety of restaurants down the end of the high street nearer Watford High Street station and it’s tucked off the main road. This means the actual restaurant is pretty sizeable with plenty of tables which is nice. As we headed there on a Monday evening it wasn’t too busy but for the few staff on the attention and service we got was great.

Middletons Garlic mushroom starter

Middletons Watford Drinks Menu

There’s a pretty sizeable drinks menu on offer with a good collection of cocktails much to my delight. I grabbed a Passion which has Vodka, Watermelon Syrup, Passionfruit Puree, Sweet & Sour and Sugar Syrup, while Luke chose a Gin and Tonic from their gin menu. A gin and tonic was just under £6 which in a restaurant I think is really good, but there’s also a lot of wine and beer choices but that’s just not our thing.

Middletons Calamari starter

Middletons Watford Food Review

While the restaurant itself looked really nice we were really there for the food, although I spent ages debating over what starter to have. There’s a really good value set menu which is just £8.95 for two-courses and £9.95 for three-courses which if you’re on a budget is really good value. We decided to go from the A La Carte menu and after much deliberation, I went for Calamari to start which were a good thickness and quite tender so you didn’t have to chew into them too much.

Luke opted for Garlic Mushrooms which is something I’ve had on my previous trip and it’s just such an indulgent starter. The Mushrooms come covered in garlic butter which is rich and buttery and you get some bread so you can soak up the excess butter afterwards. Next time I go I think I’ll have to have this again as I was so jealous of Luke.

Middletons Prime mixed grill

All the meat

To give a bit of everything a try we both decided to go for the Prime Middletons Grill which comes with a bit of everything. There was a 6oz fillet steak, Piri Piri chicken breast on the bone, a lamb cutlet, sticky BBQ ribs, onion rings, chilli & spring onion garnish and your choice of a side which we chose as chips.

The main thing I was impressed about was having the option for a fillet steak in a mixed grill as for Luke he doesn’t like a lot of other steaks and previously wouldn’t have had a mixed grill but this gave him the chance. If you’re not fussy about your steak cut then you can pay a bit less for a normal mixed grill but it was nice to have a choice.

The stand out thing for me was actually the lamb cutlet which was so tender and succulent, I could have actually eaten a whole plate of these. I grabbed a garlic butter which was a match made in heaven with the steak which was juicy and cooked exactly as I like, but I also drenched my chicken and my chips in the garlic butter as I couldn’t get enough.

Middletons molton cake

Could we manage dessert?

I was pretty full after our main courses but I think it’s rude to not try out a dessert so Luke went for the Molten Chocolate Cake and I had a Middletons Sundae full of brownies, cream and ice-cream. Luke’s was warm and I was secretly a little jealous even though mine was super tasty. I was defeated a little bit as I couldn’t quite get to the end of mine but I gave it a good go.

Overall our whole meal was incredibly tasty, something I know my parents will love so I’m going to need to take them there.

Are you a fan of steakhouses?

Never heard of Middletons before but any steak house gets my seal of approval. Think I’d have gone for the grill too…not to mention that ice cream.

Oh. My. Gosh yes please to that ice cream haha! This sounds like a restaurant my other half would love as he’s a huge steak fan. Whenever we go near one he seems to have an invisible string pulling at him.

The food here looks so great! Are there any vegan options?

    • Rhian Westbury says:

I don’t 100% remember vegan options, I know there were some veggie ones so probably but I don’t think the choice would be too extensive x

Oo you can’t go wrong with a molten chocolate cake – all of the food here looks so delicious! It’s certainly somewhere we would go 🙂

Me and my boyfriend always struggle to find somewhere to eat because I’m a vegetarian and he eats meat (and dislikes most vegetables!) This sounds like it would be a good option for us. That dessert looks delicious!

Yeah there were quite a few veggie options but then obviously your boyfriend would be absolutely fine x
