Four Things I’ve Been Getting And Storing For Our Future Home

I am the absolute worst when it comes to spending money and buying things. Even though we’re saving for a house whenever I see home things I love I have to pick them up. I’m buying things for a house we don’t yet have, so it means I can only buy small things or decorations. Nothing big like furniture or carpet even though I’d love to be able to (it would save doing it next year). I’d love to keep an eye open for great deals on flooring or paint, but it just isn’t feasible yet.

I am trying to only get things that are a great price or I absolutely love and know won’t be around next year. Otherwise, I could go a bit too crazy! Here are some of the bits I’ve been picking up for my future home.

24-piece cutlery set

We decided to throw away a lot of our kitchen items such as cutlery and plates as they were quite old and we knew we wanted new bits. I picked up this 24-piece cutlery set* from TJ Hughes and it’s one thing we now know we’ve got. I chose this set as it’s quite simple in looking but the handles are a decent thickness and feel really sturdy. They’re also dishwasher safe which was essential for us as we know we’ll be getting a dishwasher. You can’t go wrong with simple silver cutlery like this.

Marble and Rose Gold Dinnerware

I had a Next Gift Card to use up and was debating what to buy with it. I knew something for our future home would be good. As soon as I spotted this marble and rose gold 12-piece set my mind had been made up. The set comes with 4 dinner plates, 4 side plates and 4 bowls, all of which are dishwasher safe *yay*.

I know we’ll need to buy some more bits as 4 just isn’t enough but I absolutely love these to start off with. Plus they’re also dishwasher safe *hooray*

Tiger doormat

Tiger Doormat

Of course, not all of the items I’ve gotten are must-haves for first moving in. But who doesn’t need a doormat right?! I grabbed this Tiger doormat* from Red Candy because look how cute it is! But thinking about it a doormat is going to be very useful when we’re coming in and out of the house. Especially once we’ve sorted out the final carpet/ flooring. The design is so well made as it’s all cut out with the tail and legs. And due to the all-natural coir used it seems really hardwearing.

Multi-coloured vase

In my future office, I am going to going for a pink and teal colour scheme with rose gold accents. So as soon as I spotted this Multi-coloured bud vase in Debenhams it fit my visions. I’ve got a lot of thoughts and plans for my office as it’s going to be my space. And I think it’s going to be quite girlie as the rest of the house will be chosen by both of us.

I love the idea of getting some eucalyptus sprigs and have them in this vase, or have some fake buds to keep the space looking alive.

Do you ever buy things for a space or area you don’t yet have?

We got married in the middle of moving from a flat to a house so refused to open any of the new cutlery or kitchenware etc. until we’d moved

Some great items here. I love that tiger doormat, that will definitely get guests talking! I always end up buying new cutlery if moving into a brand new home.

This is a great idea as although you are spending money now it will definitely save you money in the ling run and as you said you know now you have it so wont have to rush out to buy these bits when they might not be at a great price or on sale!

I work at NEXT and can say that that is a very popular choice. I think it’s great you are stocking up it means it’s less of a dash about when you do move xx

I loved buying cutlery when we first got our house. Such an exciting time. We are currently selling our house

Oooh all of these are so pretty! I have made the agreement {with myself} that I cannot own anything overly nice in our home because my kids are feral and keep breaking things, lol!

Yeah I definitely think if we had kids I wouldn’t be buying as many decorative things x

Oh I can’t get the multi coloured vase link to work but that sounds great. Along with the rose gold table set! Love a good cutlery set, we bought ours and then found we didn’t buy enough but now we can’t get matching sets anymore.

I love every single item! I bought a 24 set cutlery and then got another 2 boxes as moving in gifts, so we have so many knives and forks everywhere now!

Haha, yeah I think when we do get a place we’ll have a strict list for any gifts so we don’t end up with duplicates haha x
